Hi.. just bought 'basic' Vuescan and it implies that I need to upgrade to 'professional' to eliminate the watermarking. Does this make sense? I thought basic would null the need.

Any thoughts much appreciated.

Basic should remove the dollar signs all over the image you see in the demo. All you have to do is enter your serial number in the registration place (which I forget where it is since I did it so many years ago). If you have the demo, you don't even have to download anything, just enter the serial number one time.

I do recommend the Pro version as that gives you a lifetime of free upgrades for the extra $20 or 30 it costs. My only payment to Ed Hamrick was something like $35 about 10 years ago, been using the free upgrades ever since. Now if Microsoft would have offered that for windows ...................

I believe the basic license will let you make RAW scans now, but you get the watermark. If you output to just a Tiff or Jpeg or the like then you shouldn't get the watermarks. This assumes that you've successfully activated your copy of Vuescan and you're trying to use RAW scanning.

Thanks for the input. I now see that the watermark shows up only when I want to use the 'advanced' features.. otherwise it is OK. I wasn't quite ready to pony up for the professional yet, but.. considering that I picked up a mint Nikon 5000ED at a sale across the street on Saturday for $100.00 I guess may be I should bite the bullet.. I am running on Win 7 so I do need the Vuescan.

Thanks again

Until recently you couldn't use any of the advanced features if you didn't buy the advanced license. Now you can at least preview what the difference would be. For most users just wanting to keep their older scanner still working on a new OS the basic license is all that's needed.

Seconded. The lifetime license option is a great one, especially for the extra $20 or $30 it entails. Glad I went for this option when I purchased Vuescan, and plan on using the software for a long time to come.
