Vulcanite?

Indeed! I didn't see much detail on that though. How much is it going to cost? I also notice that CameraLeather are re-covering M8's now and they seem to indicate that a DIY M8 covering kit will be along soon:

"[FONT=helvetica,arial,sans-serif]When will a pre-cut kit be offered for the owner to apply? Very soon, we hope. Do we get anxious at the thought of M8 owners mucking about their $5000 camera? Well, . . .YES. In most respects the M8 is easier to recover than a 35 mm Leica. We are assembling a new set of suggested steps to guide the M8 owner, based on our own experience and those of a few other M8 owners we are working with."

The DIY M8 recovering kits are available now, they just haven't been added to the shopping cart portion of the site. You have to email directlly for them. Perhaps a month ago, there was extensive discussion and how-to photographs of the procedure over at the LUF. It looks really pretty easy to do. And probably a lot less expensive than having Solms do it for you.

I recovered my Silver M8 with the Black Calfskin (Levant) from Cameraleather. It is had to imagine the difference in feel and appearance The most astonishing thing was when I removed the original covering and held it in my hand away from the camera, it looks and feels like roofing tar paper ( really nasty looking stuff). Also, should the covering need to be removed for repairs to the camera, I am led to understand that Cameralleather will send you a new covering without charge. As a side note, the installation of the new and removal of the old covering went surprising easy.

I put Griptac on my M8. I really like it. Took about 10 minutes.

Howard, you you have any photos of your M8? I've got a silver one and have been thinking about the calfskin.

Vulcanite or Luiginit ?

Vulcanite or Luiginit ?

My personal cover is Luigi’s beautiful half leather cover. It protects, it adds stability, it looks great, and oh yea it smells like the inside of a BMW. Leicatime.com. I do not work for or know Luigi, I just believe the case is the best accessory I’ve bought for the M8. Bill

Here are a few pictures of the M8 with Levant Calf Skin. The last picture shows a piece of Griptec which I requested of Morgan and which I applied to add some thumb traction. Not quite a "Thumbs Up" but does work quite nicely and allows it to be kept in it's Luigi 1/2 Case.
