w-Nikkor 3.5cm 1.8

For the second time in the last few weeks I have been very lucky.
First I got a very nice shooter Nikkor 28 3.5 for $200.00 on ebay, and today I bought a clean, clear shooter Nikkor 3.5 cm 1.8 from a dealer here in Toronto. When I picked it up I asked if he was interested in buying my CV 35 2.5. He is and we agreed on a price so in the end, the Nikkor will have cost me $300.00 Canadian.
Based on all the good things I've heard about this lens, I'm anxious to get out and shoot with it to see what it can do.
It came without caps, so naturally when I got home I took a very nice orange plastic screwcap from a bottle of spice, removed the threads and cut it down to make a spiffy and very aromatic front cap. The lens is currently mounted on a body, so a backcap isn't all that pressing. I'll either make one (I've got the raw materials just waiting) or grab one of those $5.95 plastic generic specials from ebay.
Life is good.

Various caps and lids will fit on the rear element to protect it, in lieu of a back cap. I'd recomment getting one of the CV rear caps for Nikkors, because, in the long term, that will keep dust and muck out of the focusing mechanism.

Bought from Setadel Studios ? In this case I had seen it on eBay and yes it's a very good grab (not a beauty contest winner but still decent and probably better once cleaned out). 😉

A set of ($5 each) generic rear and front caps (Contax mount deep rear cap and 43mm clip-on front cap from Heavystar, and they are of excellent quality) are worth the expense for that very lens. You don't want the rear element to be scuffed out in your photo bag because of a self-made loosy cap just for the fun of trying to save a few cents on your next month streetcars tokens budget.

Yes, that's the lens.
Everything optical and mechanical works very well, and the cosmetics while reasonable, weren't a consideration anyway.
And yes again, I received one of Heavystar's $5.99 rear caps yesterday, which is very well constructed, with a knurled grip at the top, generously thick black plastic walls, and even a very nice white positioning dot for ease of installation.
Both the 28 and the 35 lenses are small enough to live on the bodies, and as such I am only one rear-cap short if i was to take both lenses off and keep them separate in the bag , so while I do plan to grab another back cap from Heavystar when he returns from holidays, it's not really a serious concern right now.
As for the front caps, both homemade examples fit very snugly (more so in fact than either of my CV front caps), so unless they deteriorate over time, I'll not bother going through the rigamarole to replace them, which will thankfully leave me with enough spare change in my Mason Jar for the TTC tokens next month. But I do appreciate your sincere concern for my well-being.

I just finished a series of 15 rolls of APX 400 in Rodinal. I used 5 rolls for a Nikkor 35f2.5, 5 rolls for an older 35f1.8 and 5 rolls with the SP 2005 version of the 35f1.8.
The best one is the 2005 35f1.8 by a substantial margin ( it rivals the s5 Summicron 35f2 Asph), the runner up was actually the 35f2.5 and the third place was the vintage 35f1.8. Not a big difference between the f2.5 and the old 1.8.
There are about 130 shots with these three lenses on our Flickr at the moment. Tag APX 400 Rodinal and they should pop up.
