I had mounted a cone hood to my lens back when it was around 10 degrees F below freezing, and did a shoot downtown where I was using the hood to turn the aperture control ring. The other day I decided to take the hood off, and the whole front assembly came with it!
Luckily, I stopped turning before it disengaged from the lens body. Seems I'll have to tighten the front element back down to keep that from happening again. And maybe buff the threads on the generic hood so they don't grab it so hard the next time.

My M5s need red dots!
Had that happened to me I would have screamed all the way to Japan. Good you know what you're doing!

Same thing happens with my LTM W-Nikkor 3.5cm F1.8 when I tighten the UV filter too much. No biggie even if you unscrew the optics all the way out, because much like an L-M adapter there's only one way you can screw it back on/in.

Thanks, Jon, that's good to know.

Remember Nikon used a different thread pitch on their 43mm filter mount, and most accessories will bind. Heavystar can provide inexpensive hoods that fit.

I'll have to dig out my Nikkor 35/2.5 again. I seem to remember that the outer element was deep seated enough not to need a hood.
Course I could be remembering another lens.

That's strange. I use a Leitz UV filter on my original 35mm f1.8, Never had any problem. But the pitch of the "modern" RF Nikkors from the 00s is different. Maybe that is the problem.
