W-Nikkor C 3.5cm f/1.8 Photos!

Love using this lens on the Nikon Z6, even when shooting toward the sun, it still performs nicely.

One of my favorite lenses. Mine is quite beat up, which is the only reason i own one haha. I got it for a good price i could not refuse. Sent it for a CLA and its working beautifully. I need to post more images with this lens.
PS:
One thing i did notice though... it does not seem to carry the same magic on digital. I finally bought a Sony A7ii to be able to use certain lenses like this one that can't be used on my M bodies. And theres just something different about it. Ill have to post some images of that too.

My first copy of this lens was an M-mount converted reissue version bought from RFF member that I eventually sold. I've since been hoarding copies of this lens and doing my own conversion to M mount. I now have 4 copies coverted to M-mount.😀😀😀😀

The most recent conversions I did also included close focus modification, allowing close to 0.8m focus. Here are a couple of samples at the 0.8m minimum focus distance.

Is it a permanent or reversible mod?

It is semi-permanent in that I Super Glue or E6000 adhesive to keep the RF coupler in place. Much force would be needed to remove the added metal RF coupler and any remaining adhesive would have to be cleaned off. In one of the four I used double-sided 3M tape so that one will be easier to reverse. The M adapter used is the one available from eBay. I just sanded it to remove the brand (Pixco) and give it the zebra look.

The metal part I use comes from an aluminum tube I found on eBay. It has a diameter slightly larger than necessary so I usually trim off a little bit. Here are detailed pics:

Typical steps in doing the conversion:
1. Check overall focus of the lens. I found that there is a little bit of variation on the infinity focus of the lenses. If possible I do not to modify the original infinity focus.
The infinity focus is taken care of on the adapter side.
2. Adjust adapter for infinity focus. The adapter from eBay is usually thicker than necessary so sanding it to the right thickness is the first necessary step. I do this with my Sony A7.
3. Unscrew rear element. Remove RF coupler.
4. Remove rear element from its housing. File and trim off excess thickness of rear element mount to make sure it can clear RF cam.
Glue rear element on the modified mount.
5. Cut off an aluminum ring about the necessary thickness. Cut the ring on one side and trim off excess to get necessary diameter.
6. Make a notch on the aluminum ring to match the screw. This ensures it stays in the right place. Use tape to keep it in place temporarily.
7. Try everything on an M camera. Make adjustments for infinity focus, then on close distances. Repeat until acceptable focus on all distances is achieved.
8. Glue the metal RF coupler in place.

The bulk of the work is filing and sanding parts into the correct thickness.
 
Here is an attempt at using the lens on digital. I admit the lighting conditions were not great. But i want to try to use the lens as much as possible now that i have the right digital body to use it on. I guess i have to keep trying in different lighting situations and work on the post editing as well. Currently i am also going through a roll of Kodak Gold 200 for the first time to see how my copy handles color film.

Thanks for the details! So it's reversible, but not non-destructive. I guess that's unavoidable. The only other way would be to make a new retainer ring for the rear element.
 
Got a copy of this lens with aperture blades removed as a few of them were damaged. Six of the nine aperture blades were usable so I placed them back in the following aperture configuration:

Keeping this thread alive, I own one of kirio's converted lenses. First outing with it on my M240. After using an UC-Hex 35/2 this basically cured my desire to own another, this lens simply is amazing.
