This reminds me of Robert Adams’s work showing the impact of development in the American West.cleared house lot overlooking Merrymeeting Bay on a 100 foot ridge.

Thanks Lynn. This is on 22 acres next to us that has been for sale at a huge price for years. It had not been cut or developed for over 120 years. It has a history in three eras. First as the terminus of a carry/portage trail for Native Americans between salt water and our freshwater bay and its inland rivers. Next as the building site of some of the earliest white pioneers in the area, and last as the site of several farms owned by a community of free blacks dating to the late 1700’s, some of whom are buried in a small cemetery on the property down by the Bay. Its shore fronts on an incredible freshwater tidal marsh full of fish and wildlife. I would have loved to have seen it preserved, but the price was too steep. It will now be the site of two homes and a new era. I will try to do some more photos of it this spring. This reminds me of Robert Adams’s work showing the impact of development in the American West.
