Mike - thank you so much! Look at that bridge! Apart from its significance to the Japanese, it was built at Vickers in Barrow in Furness with late Victorian British technology (no doubt including the domestic plumbing). A real period piece.

That boat has one hell of a history Mike ! Peter

Peter, the Hikawa-Maru is now a floating museum. Admission is inexpensive and well worthwhile. Passenger cabins, 1st class dining room and smoking lounge are a real snapshot into the life of a well-to-do world traveler of the past. If one visits the ship during the workweek they’ll practically have the whole ship to themselves. The weekend is a different story.
