W/NW: Cemeteries

I wish I could post some of my Hasselblad SWC images of Cemeteries here. I have a superb image of one in Switzerland I took some years ago. Then another from out West where Ansel Adams went in Taos. I gave up trying to share my images ages ago, this site will not even allow an image from an iPad supposedly because the file is too big. Simply not worth my effort when the system makes it too difficult, sorry but that is it.

breaking the RFF tradition of literal translation of the theme description and only posting photos which are similar to previous posts, i.e. no people in cemetery photos ......

Barajagua, Cuba - My wife and sister (L-R). Unlike other places, most Cuban cemeteries are typically bright, cheery, and have palm trees. A bit like the beach but with crosses and small crypts. This one is on the side of a hill with a great view.

The name of this community is delightful, but it isn't a tribute to Carolina BBQ. The European settlers came from the Scottish Highlands in the 1750s, by way of the Caribbean. Their leader had seen Jamaican or Bahamian barbecue pits steaming, and the local creek steaming in the Carolina summer reminded him of this.

What an interesting headstone. I wish I could read all the text at the bottom of it.

Robert, is that your wristwatch on top of the stone?

All the best,
Mike
Mike, I seem to make out that it's:
His time on earth has ended
His time in heaven is eternal

And I'd guess the watch is affixed somehow to the stone, as another element in the "time" theme. :)

Thanks, Doug. That time theme is pretty interesting.

I guess he wasn't the kind of guy that would be late to his own funeral. :D

All the best,
Mike

One of the strangest little cemeteries I've ever visited sits in the forest of a mountain hill along the shore of Lake Moyie, British Columbia.
