This picture tells a story. A winter storm has severely eroded the beach, undercutting the frontal dune and its covering vegetation, leaving a small cliff. People accessing the beach have caused further erosion. Winter storms are getting more severe as time passes. Less than two miles from here, some coastal property owners have installed sea walls at great expense to avoid catastrophic property loss. Insurance has become prohibitively expensive if it can be obtained, and insurance cover is no longer available for an increasing number of areas.
