W/NW: Color Landscapes

incoming squall at Freshwater point, Sydney, 17 January 2026. [#7329]
Pentax K-5 Pentax 18-250mm @23mm ISO400 1/1000 f/7
It was raining lightly accompanied by wind gusts when I took this. You can see the water drops on the lens filter. The K-5 has very good weather sealing - I wouldn’t have risked this shot with a Leica. The hole in the clouds was fleeting (maybe 20secs) so it was lucky I got out of the car at the right moment.

Lovely lucky grab. Well spotted. One thing that's great about a digital viewfinder is that you can safely look into the light. It's odd, I have never been drawn to Pentax. Madness probably.

Thanks Ray. The K-5 has an optical pentaprism viewfinder. It’s APS-C old tech.. around 2010 vintage. I found it in an op shop recently including 3 lenses and a flash - too good to pass up. I’m impressed with its handling and build quality. I think the design is well thought out. The 18-250mm superzoom is a great carry everywhere lens for landscapes and birds.

One day I’ll get a digital CanoSoNikon mirrorless body with a digital VF, for my LTM and M lenses.
