ps. sorry for the crummy scans....

You know, there are some pretty cool shots on this thread.

However, I'm still not crazy about Holgas. Maybe it is the name? Or maybe I just don't like the way they look or the whole concept of the stupid camera? I don't know.....

Hard to like the way they look! I think sometimes this camera is "liberating" (hope it's the right word) so no controls, no exposure just looking for something cool to photograph. Then no expectations on the results and no frustration if there's anything I like in the contact prints. It's liberating ... and a fun to use ... at least for me ...

Hating a Holga is the same thing as using a Holga. What do you think the black tape thing is all about? It's clearly sado-camera handling technique. By the way, to bet best results, learn to shoot one handed. Like this:

As you can see, it hates me too!

LOL :D
a great example about "how to make simple things very difficult"!

Chris, there is just something so wrong about seeing that beautiful Nikon flash on that weird, plastic, freaky looking camera.

You should be ashamed......:D

Chris101, that is grunge genre at its best. I will never hold a candle to you. BUT, Chris, I will keep trying. Maybe you could give a course down in AZ.

Here is one of my grunge tries, not with a Holga but my Holgaoid FirstSix (6x6):

Do you ever wonder how many other grunge genre photographers are on RFF?

... and who bothers? :D

John Stanmeyer of VII, in my opinion one of the best documentary photographers working today bothers.

Have a look at his presentation of excellent images of Bali mystics about 1/2 way down this page.

Some people do think that any picture taken with a Holga is a good picture simply because it's taken with a Holga. But in the hands of a skilled photographer with an eye for composition and timing, great images can be created with a Holga.

Rick, what amazes me, is how well my Nikolga works! Seems the flash in A mode exposes perfectly, no matter what. Look:

I see your point and I agree but I could add that changing the word "Holga" with "Leica" the concept would remain the same. Quite obvious, at least for me, that any camera in the hands of the talented photographer can create great images; no matter the gear for the good photo, it's the eye of the photographer that matters.
So if someone think that any photo is good just because it's taken with an Holga/Leica/Canon etc etc then again ... who cares?
Ciao
