My late wife, Sue. We were married for 48 years when she died. After spending much of her adult life helping raise 4 children, she turned to equestrian training and competition. In this 2003 photo, she is exiting the ring after performing a high scoring ride in a class just below the Olympic level. That defined her later life.

Roland Feller, Swiss-born luthier, in his San Francisco shop, writing up the list of violas he was lending my wife to test. We took $100,000 worth of instruments and drove home, 275 miles north. The best luthiers routinely do this for professional players. We returned two weeks later once Linn decided which viola would be hers. / RX1

Man being escorted by a deputy to the Hoke County courthouse, Raeford, North Carolina. I particularly admired his Champion sweatshirt and his dignity wearing jail bracelets. / GR
