Cow Parade has come to Edinburgh!
I just can't get the hang of scanning colour neg, though.
M6, CV 21, Fuji Press 800 (it's what was in the camera).

I'm affraid that my shots of fake plastic cows are all.. umm... sold to Plastic Cow Monthly. Too bad..
Alright, stop looking at me like that, I confess: I have never ever taken a picture of a fake plastic cow. Just wanted to post here because I had to say how much the title of this thread reminds me of a Radiohead song: Fake plastic trees.
Anyway, I think your shots are great, do you have more? I would love to see some more of those cows, they seem genuine art (or artsy at least
) I'd have had a great time at that exhibition!

forgot to ask: is that a 50mm?

I have more to be scanned, and still more to be developed. I was sceptical, but the cows are actualy quite cool. There's 100-odd of them around the city just now, and at the end of the expo they get autioned for charity.
50? No, 21.

I have some from long long ago when they started here in the Midwest US. I can't find them though! There's still a bunch scattered all over the city. I'll have to treck out this weekend and hunt me some cows!
(the first thing I thought of was the Radiohead song too.. *great* disk!)

When this darned thing started in the midwest (Chicago, IIRC) I figured it was a US "heartland" thing.
Then it came to NYC! Oh the horrors - a kick right to our big city smugness!
And now it's over there on the other side of The Pond! Here I thought you Europeans were more sophisticated than this!
The cows look great - and as noted - the charity auctions is a good ending. I just wonder who puts these things in their living rooms afterward?

They are not part of the same herd but here are some cows that hang out behind the Kopps burger/custard joint in Milwaukee, Wisconsin:

Sadly I only have pictures of real plastic cows. Burger and custard? On the same plate? Ugh! These cows turned up all over London a year or two back but for some reason I have no pictures.

sbug, I love the title of that folder in your gallery! "The Island of Misfit Pictures".. I often say "I'm a saaaad panda" and nobody gets it, dangit.
Nice photo too. Is there just one black cow in that row? Our cows never stood in a row like that. I guess they scattered out to graze.

Hate to break it to you, George - it started off in Europe. Switzerland, actually, hence the cows.copake_ham said:When this darned thing started in the midwest (Chicago, IIRC) I figured it was a US "heartland" thing.

I'd love one for the back garden. Couldn't afford it, though. That's a weird kind of GAS
...
Two more, from this afternoon.
M6, newly Kim-ified J8, Fuji Astia. The first one was the dirtiest scan I've ever had to spot: about an hour. I think I'll change back to the lab I used to use...

Thanks. The title seemed very appropriate for the mess of random pictures in my gallery.
Yep, one black cow. They are very orderly bovines.

Some nifty shots of plastic cows above...
We did it too, 2002, in my town in central Washington state. I think there were about 14 or so of these, handed over to local artists to do what they wanted, then they were auctioned for charity. A bit difficult, I think, as what would most of us DO with a nearly-life-size plastic cow?
This first one, a white cow with gold embellishments, was stolen off this porch a couple years ago and has not (yet?) been recovered.

Of course the newspaper got involved as a sponsor of the event, so one of the cows was severely modified to become "Scoop Cowman", reporter at the Dairy Record.
The last one isn't plastic of course, but welded steel, still cow art though... found in Rancho Mirage CA.

I know this is an old thread, but I just came across it. I think it's really neat. I didn't know this charity thing started in Europe.
In my town and the next town, they have done circus animals (lions, tigers, girraffs, etc.) Guess I need to get some photos of the ones that are around town yet.
This could be a new thread with photos from all over the world!
