W/NW: Guitars

Shot for an article in a magazine on hearing loss. Taken at a music store for that article a lot of years back. Taken with a Hasselblad 500 C/M and a 50mmCF FLE lens and IIRC two White Lighning 1200s large sotbox for key light and large umbrella for fill down 1.5 stops from key light. 10 X 20 gray musin backdrop. T-max 400 in Rodinal 1:50

Alan that shot is fantastically disturbing! Great image for the article.

A Collings model.
Hill Country Guitars is closed? Bad news for LGS's...

October/Nov 2016.. Dwain C closed the Wimberly store & sold the business... I believe it is now an online sales model. I was at all of Dwain’s locations... the stone house in Wimberly , the Austin one & this last one on the Main Street of Wimberly across the street from the coffee shop. Dwain is a great friend and HGC was a special place . Marc is playing a pretty cool mahogany topped OM shadetop in the photo.
HGC was a great place from when Kevin Drew Davis started it in Wimberly.

A couple of local Bar Bands that I had the opportunity to photograph.

Paddock Metroplitan / carved archtop that can be disassembled into its special case for aircraft overhead bin. Charles Paddock, a longtime engineer at Fisher Price, took up luthiery full time in 2010. He died in 2016.

Orion headless guitar by Chris Forshage, Austin Texas. Carved walnut, designed as a 7-string but he changed it to 6 when I bought it. Much like finger spacing on a classical fretboard.

1985 Ross Teigen archtop in early morning light. My practice and composing times usually begin before dawn for a few hours most days.

"Faux Fender".

I built one of those kits which you can buy on Ebay for about $70. Its a lot like putting a Leica logo on a $70 Japanese clone camera.

Seagull S6+ CW, solid cedar top. Not a fancy high end looker, but I bought it when I was a cash-strapped college student. Went with me to Africa for two years while I was in the Peace Corps. It's like a long-time friend that you can always count on. I think the new-to-me lens rendered it nicely.

Leica M5, Leica Summicron 50mm f/2 v3, Ultrafine Xtreme 400, developed in LegacyPro L110 at 1:31 for 5.5 minutes.
