Waveland Mississippi, six months after hurricane Katrina. This man failed to find any trace of his house, other then what you see here. He said it was almost this clean when he returned. He swore he was going to rebuild somehow. But when I went back nine months later, he was gone, the FEMA trailer was gone and only the foundation and a "lot for sale" sign remained.

Long Hua Elementary School in Nantou Co., Taiwan was rebuilt after being heavily damaged in the 1999 earthquake. Now, the award winning school has been destroyed by flooding following the typhoon that struck Taiwan last August.

Rob, you are right. Nature either explodes in sudden fury with hurricanes and earthquakes, or just as effectively ultimately, it slowly and incessantly chips away to a victory.
