Monday morning wayback -- me and my 1983 Yamaha Virago 500. This is was during my July 1986 trip to the Maritime provinces of Canada (New Brunswick, Nova Scotia and Prince Edward Island). This shot was taken just after my stator was replaced in Moncton, NB. There were more troubles to come but overall it was a great trip.

Hmm just realized that I still have that license plate -- sheesh maybe I should've used it on the Moto Guzzi!

So far so good. I’ll be taking it in for its first service in 500km - oil change, valve adjustment and possibly a clutch cable adjustment. Sometimes I get a false neutral between 2nd and 3rd so I’ll see if the mechanic can look into that. Otherwise it’s a great bike. The one thing that did surprise me is the LCD dash — I thought it would be a confusion of numbers (speed, tach, temp, time, trip etc) but it really isn’t. Actually it’s quite easy to glance down and take in all the info. I really like the look of it.

The reach to the bars is perfect and the seat is great, bar-end mirrors are excellent. The only thing that is a little bit cramped is the knee bend. I’m glad I’m no taller than I am (5’9”) because any taller/longer legs and it would be a tight fit. As it is it’s not a deal-breaker but I could go for either slightly lower pegs or a slightly higher seat. I can learn to live with it as-is.

Overall a great bike and I know I made the right choice.
