My friend, Miguel Sanchez Leyva, getting ready to go on stage at Fidel's 90th birthday party in Biran, Cuba, his family home. Fidel's birthday is a big deal every year but his 90th was a really big deal with festivities that lasted two days. Sanchez has many awards for his classic guitar playing as well as a few for his poetry. He is a friendly but quiet unassuming guy who never said anything about his military career. But I recently saw his military medals and to say he is a military hero is an understatement. He fought with both Fidel and Raul as a clandestine before the Revolution through being one of Fidel's commanders repelling the Bay of Pigs invasion. We get along well but do not discuss politics as we sit on different sides of that table.
