2020 was the worst year yet - but they reassured me that 2021 couldn't be any worse. I'm not so sure about that: Ten days in and we're having major Brexit problems emerging, another lockdown in place, a more virulent new strain of Covid bubbling over, thousands more dying than in the first wave back in April, and now a Trump-inspired attempted coup with the storming of the Capitol.

I think when my 14-day free-trial period for 2021 ends in a couple of days, I won't be subscribing to this year!

Got my very first, and likely only, Picture of the Week on the LFI Gallery! Pretty excited and very honored to have the recognition among all the amazing photographers over on LFI.

I was out with a local photography group (beersandcameras) in San Diego. Had been on lock down for months here in San Diego and finally got up the motivation and inspiration to meet up with the local group (socially distanced and masked of course). Photos show how people were actually treating the mask requirements, but our group was well protected and conscientious. That said, the boardwalk in Mission Beach, CA was full of energy again, and people were just out trying to enjoy their Sunday. I got to enjoy mine doing what I love, and got to meet some great photographers here in the local area. This was my first time with these guys and they were all just like me...obsessed with photography gear, loved talking about photography in general, and were all a great group with tons of good energy. And I think it was that energy that got me into the zone in taking photographs again.

In any event, here's my LFI photo, and a few others below...

Selling snacks in the alley. These women have been running this small business since the early '70s and they are still going strong. Binh
Thanh District, Saigon. Fuji X-H1 - XF 2.8/16-55 @ 16mm.

Heavy loads on motorbikes. What could go wrong? A common sight in the city. A few days ago, a good friend of mine was clipped by a guy carrying a similar load. He
crashed and broke his leg. Friends and family are scrambling to offset the cost of his surgery and recovery. November 2020. Fuji X-100T.

Amazing what one can pack on a little motorbike! Back in the 1970s and 80s when a motorcycle was my main means of transport, I'd carry what I needed to carry, carefully strapped down... a case of motor oil, say; two or three bags of groceries, a Macintosh computer... but not a load as that above! :)

True enough. I usually stay clear of them. How about this guy:

If you'd ask a professional rider: "how much stuff can you load on your stripped-down 50cc Honda Cub"? His answer would probably be: "a lot more".
Saigon, June 2015. Leica M7 - CV 1.2/35 - Kodakcolor 100 ISO.

Loading a bike with goods after a sale. The risk of overloading the bike is with the rider: when stopped by the police, he'll pay a hefty
fine. If he refuses the overload, the buyer will find another rider who will take it. Binh Tay Market. Saigon, July 2015. Epson R-D1x - Zeiss Biogon 2.8/28.
