Go Green? 1956 KMZ Jupiter-3, Version 2. At F4 on the M8.

It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas- 1956 KMZ J-3 v2, wide-open on the M8.

Somewhere around 1954, the Jupiter-3 was recomputed using Soviet glass, as the supply of Schott glass was exhausted. Manufacture of both versions ran through 1956.

Definitely. I have two 1956 types. One in LTM & one in Kiev mount both have vastly different coatings. While that can’t be an indicator that it’s one or the other. It shows the situation was changeable at that point.Go Green? 1956 KMZ Jupiter-3, Version 2. At F4 on the M8.

Be interesting to see if it has any differences too. I mean so far, I’ve tested my 3 LTM mounts and there isn’t all that much difference between em even though they’re 3 different factories. None of them are bad. That’s what I’ve found so far.I'm shooting 1955

A comparison between Jupiter-3 lenses from KMZ, ZOMZ, and Valdai. All cherry-picked over the last 20 years. The v1 KMZ is the best of all J-3's, as good as a Wartime Sonnar. Which it basically is. The Valdai- I went through a dozen to get one this good.

Brian has done "brain surgery" of such lenses! I love seeing such technical know-how being explained here at RFF again.

Sometimes it can just be dumb luck with these lenses I have definitely noticed. I took the chance on my ‘86 version based on how immaculate it was. And luckily, it’s never dissapointed me.A comparison between Jupiter-3 lenses from KMZ, ZOMZ, and Valdai. All cherry-picked over the last 20 years. I’m sort of tempted to send it to Skylanney for a good overhaul but then… does one send his also mint 1956 instead ? 😅

Thanks for the link to this, I’ll double check all of mine anyway, even though for my KMZ & Valdai I have been happy. I’d rather know, I definitely know my ZOMZ is not correct, when mounted on my VL2 body the meters mark is a little out compared to the other two. I need to correct it sometime when I’ve got some time to myself (maybe in the next 30-40years)A comparison between Jupiter-3 lenses from KMZ, ZOMZ, and Valdai.
