How about a fountain pen picture thread?

I'll start with this:

Omas Arte Italiana Celluloid Arco Dama, #18 of 45 made, with 18k gold nib tuned by Kohei Kubo, filled with Noodler's Antietam ink.

I love fountain pens and have lots, though nothing as nice as your well-photographed example. My most recent find is a fairly old Parker 51, which is in flawless shape and never dries between fillings like most of my other pens do. Many of my pens seem to dry almost overnight, but I can leave the Parker for two weeks and it writes with the first touch of the paper. I'd illustrate some but have never figured out the arcane procedure for posting images on RFF. Cheers...TW

Tony,

Love to see your collection at some point. The easiest way to show pictures on RFF is to first upload the photo to whatever photo sharing service of your choice (I'm using Flickr) and post the URL using special tags. If you can tell me which service you are using (or wish to use) very likely I can give you a better instructions. :)

Here is another one. Going for a totally different direction from my 1st post, might freak some traditionalists out. ;)

Kaweco Sport Ice Yellow converted to eyedropper, then filled with Iroshizulu Murasaki-Shikibu (purple). I call it Toxic Mutant Toy Pen.

Cigar shape, portable Aka-tamenuri in Ebonite with Goldfish Maki-e converter.
Empty, deciding on which ink is definitely worse than choosing film type.

Man, I always wanted a Nakaya. Got very close several times but haven't pulled the trigger yet. It sure is beautiful.

have a pelikan probably the same size as the one shown above. love.

have a twsbi demonstrator. love.

will post photos. i've got a bunch.

Uhhh.. Good grief!

I have been wanting to get a single, yes just one, fountain pen for my desk. If anyone here just had to have one fountain pen, which one would you choose?

Dave, this is like saying I only want one film camera. Ain't gonna happen. :)

If you like the idea of bottled ink the piston fill pens are nice, they hold lots of ink and you can try different brands and colors, whereas with cartridges you're pretty much stuck with whatever the manufacturer offers. Pelikan and TWSBI pens are piston refill and affordable. Many pens also take converter cartridges, these are miniature piston cartridges, they don't hold as much ink as a disposable cartridge but give you the flexibility of bottled ink.

If I had to have only one pen under $40 it would be a Lamy Safari. Yes it's plastic. Yes it has a triangular grip that forces you to hold it one way. Yes it has a steel nib. But they work great, come in a variety of colors, write well and will take converters for bottled ink. These are considered beginner fountain pens but they work great. I'd recommend a fine point nib.

BTW, nib sizing varies between German and Japanese brands. So a fine point of each won't be the same. The German nibs are generally wider. The TWSBI, a Taiwanese brand, uses a German nib.

lamy safari, because you'd use it all the time. a black one got me through college with nary a callous on my fingertips.

Where does one buy ink? No such thing as a stationary store any more in St. Louis. And Office Depot has no ink in bottles.
