For some reason, a lot of the girls in Japan have really cool umbrellas. At least, in some of your photos, they do. I love this. You find some really interesting people for your photos. I walk around my small home town in Texas and all I find are cowboys and rednecks. Not that there is anything wrong with that, but, you know...

Like in Australia. In any country town, pointing a camera at any bogan (= redneck) or even his car or his property, can mean literally taking your life in your hands.

Asians have a different viewpoint on street photography. Most in Indonesia will tolerate it, but as society in Java becomes more middle class, some are taking exception to having a camera aimed in their direction. Often they will say something 'negative' in Bahasa Indonesia (which I understand, at least in the basics), more often they will do at times quite rude gestures with their hands.

I generally avoid these less than positive confrontations by sitting in the shade with a Nikon and an '85, '135 or '180 lens on a tabletop tripod. Thereby removing myself from any potential danger.

I admire Mike's courage in walking the streets with his camera. And getting such natural images.
