After the obligatory search in the forum, I can't find one that highlights the quirkiness of the much-beloved VW "Bug".

Who doesn't love this very fun car that has become an international icon. Here's a chance to show off those VW shots you snap way back when, or just yesterday!

 
I had a '71 Beetle back in high school and into university years. Great fun car. Good in the snow, but a really lousy heater/defroster! My parents had one much earlier, and I was small enough back then to fit in that space behind the rear seat! 🙂

Undoubtedly one of the greatest automobiles every made. However the perception of the car is different depending on where you are and also how old you are. In North America, the car is associated with love, fun and free-spirits - everything good about the hippie generation. However, in some parts of Europe and to some older people, this car is representative of mobilized Nazi Germany.

Nevertheless, I would love to see photographs of this iconic automobile.

Did you really have to remind I never took a single picture of my ´71? And, Frank S; I´m trying to resist a project of buying/restoring a 60s Karmann Ghia ... They´re too cool to be true, actually.

Frank S; Time and money are two major problems. But skills? Well, I had this old Volvo 245 and the machine went bust. I got one with a new transmission from Sweden. When I had taken the bonnet off, I started thinking; Can i do this? Really? My oldest son helped out, we easily reached the point of no return (a big, ugly hole where the engine used to be). Still; after a full nights worth of work, dirt, oil and frustration the thing started on first try. Should have seen us! So; it´s more a question of stupidity, stubbornnes and luck - more than skills.
No rust, though (it never sleeps) ...
 
This brings backs memories! I had a '59 black bug in high school and college, graduating to a '71 Squareback after college. Here are some shots from our local burger drive-in that has VW gatherings:

That doesn't count! It's only a Beetle in name...the new model has nothing in common with the old one; it'll never be made in such numbers and I doubt it'll ever reach the cult status of the "real" one.
 
My '69 Beetle is in the garage...covered up but ready to go anytime...
Sorry but no recent photos of it...bought it in 1979...my first car...
Would love to find a '70 van...
