we are celebrating summer equinox - this year we went to country house with friends, to perform old rituals here. This includes setting up fireplace, on ground and on pole, dancing, playing old games, singing and tasting special meals.
For this I wanted to go light and took only...oh shame, not RF but SLR with 28mm lens (because all my RF's are in 45-50mm range). I put also 50mm lens in bag, just to have it and don't load myself with another camera.
Upon arrival, I noticed spots and light, took out camera and after two shots camera jammed
suddenly and unexpectedly - no single failure before. Must say, I unstuck it with kitchen knife. After a short thought I changed my mind and decided to engage fully in fair. Not looking for place to stand for good shot, not running ahead crowd, nothing from it. Finally I had wonderful 24 hours and driving home I realized what I needed - pocket size P&S camera to make few snaps. They were invented for this! And I didn't get idea of this before....
During fair, I saw people happily snapping off, without too much worrying about framing, perspective and what else. This time I were better not taking pictures at all (or would be taking few snapshots - because many of them would take too much time) than family, who held their dslr on tripod, and spent tons of time guarding camera from flying sparks and running kids, moving it around and putting lens cap on after shot.
Probably this tell more about me as photographer - if I'd be better, probably I could act like those great minds, who took/take great pictures on move and don't cycle idling on exposure. Another option, opposite to mentioned, I see would be mentioned snapshots.
Currently I'm in stage when concentrating on pictures would distract me from event fully, I would be just watcher and picture taker, not acting inside. Actually I like this state of mind, when I'm kind outside, capturing key moments. As this were very special moment in my life, I chose to feel it to remember, not relying on pictures. Strange, though today I don't feel I gave up, rather fully enjoyed my presence there.
No single picture from this event, words only!

I don't know, your post seems like a pretty good picture of the day and your feelings about it. And you'll have the pictures in your head for a long while yet, I hope.No single picture from this event, words only!
I actually have a P&S camera for just this sort of idea, and it is also very handy to have one if you want to let some one else shoot a few pictures with out having to teach them your usual camera.

Yes, sometimes it happens that it is nice to take part in an event without having to worry for pics, framing, etc etc. Even if i, we all probably, like very much to take pictures...
Since a few weeks in this cases I take some snaps (horror, I know!) with my ...phone !
