Hi Guys,

I am looking for a waist level viewfinder and I am wondering if there is any classic RF waist level viewfinder that I could get out there on the net? My friend has one of the CV right angle finder but it is not a real waist level viewfinder and you have to bring it to your eye to frame. Any help and suggestion will be appreciated.

Regards,
Peter

It does! Leica used to produce AUFSU waist level rangefinder in the 1930s.

The Kodak Starflex costs about $5 at auction. I had to buy 2, They were so nice. I bought one for my collection and am converting the one with a broken shutter into a WL finder.

I just found out about Zeiss 436/5 finder for 35mm format. Anyone knows where to get one?

Waist-level finder

A few years ago I was obsessed with making viewfinders, including a waist-level one. I wanted to buy the 1930's Leica ones, but they're way too expensive. (Annoying collectors buy these useful things and they just sit in a box.)

I found the Contax one (shown above) for about $50, but ultimately found it difficult to use. By the time you compose, you've lost the subject. I find it easier to just hold the camera at waist level and aim...I would love to have a larger, wide-angle one, though.
