ok, i have decided...

i would like to trade my canon 50/1.4 for a canon 50/1.5.

mine is in very nice shape but it's not mint.
some tiny cleaning marks on the front element, back element seems clean.
there is some dust trapped between elements but i noticed them with a loupe.
photos show no negative evidence from the above.

comes with a tiffen skylight filter, rear cap and original canon s-50 hood (in fair condition).

i also have a mint s-50 hood complete with canon leather case, also mint, looks like it was never used. this i would sell with first dibs to my trading partner.

if a trade does not work out then i will offer the lens for sale.

the lines are open...

Joe, that Canon is a sweetie, like candy at a school door... Are you looking for a more Sonnar-like looks, right ?

i think so oscar.
50mm is not my focal length of choice it seems so i hope that a different 'look' will spur me on. having 2 50's seems silly as i almost always choose a 35 when i head out.

Yeah, what can I tell you, 35 is my guide as well. That said, have you considered going for a properly serviced Jupiter-3 instead ? That would give you the Sonnar look as well...

Unless you're firm on your canon-on-canon ;)

I've made that suggestion!

I think Joe has been "Canonized" through and through!

I already have a 50mm F1.4, one F1.5 on the CL, and the other on the Canon 7.

I am amazed how well the calibrated J-3's work...

It's fun, I have now the Canon 50/1.8 on the Zorki 3M, and a black J8 on the Canon P. Don't ask me why but they just look so damn great that way :)

What I'm trying to save you from is seller's remorse on that 50/1.4...

i don't think i will have remorse as i have to force myself to use a 50.

i notice i'm liking the wider view more and more these days. the 28 calls to me more and more.

I'm still a 50 guy, and you'd have to pry my Canon 50 1.4 (black) as well as my 50 1.8 (chrome) out of my cold dead hands. Never, never, never!

But I'd sell a lot of stuff to have a 50mm f1.5.

Problem is, nobody wants my stuff.

Best Regards,

Bill Mattocks

Well, I have the Canon 35mm F1.8 coming in. I used the Nikkor 3.5cm F2.5 at the Air&Space center yesterday, and the WA helps a lot. But I have to force myself to use them! I will be selling off the 35mm F2.8 Canon soon after the F1.8 comes in. Of course, it does fit in the CL's case...

Brian, are you going to be selling your calibrated J3s when you get them all done. You have 4 or 5 on their way to you right?

Joe, although the Canon 50/1.5 is my fav, dropping a couple bucks on a nice J8 can never be a bad choice. They are so cheap..... I have a newer black lens and it works very well. That said, I will of course keep my eyes open for a 1.5 for you.

Ralph, could you do a quick and dirty comparo of the Canon F1.5 and the J3? Just take the same scene with both lenses, preferrably wide open.

I don't have a J3 Frank. I have put off buying one because I am afraid of the backfocus issue. I am sure it isn't hard to do, but re-shimming a lens is not my cup of tea, and unless I get one from a trusted source I most likely will pass. Brian's photos though look great.

I am not one for test, but maybe I will try to shoot my Canon 50/1.5, Jupiter 8 and Nikkor 50/2 together over next weekend.
