Want to become a better photographer?

Elitist? That's only half of what you are charger for a year at Harvard, and they don't even teach you where to press the button there!

If I had the time and money it sounds like a long fun workshop. Set up the program to spend half the time in London and the half in Paris. There could be a lot worse ways of spending time.

..... since I don't have the time or the money, I'll have to take a pass.

When I visit a workshop for some special IT skills it's normally around 1000 EUR per day. This seminar spans 9 months with a detailed workshop plan. 30000 does not sound too expensive for that.

Depends who you are. I don't suppose they are offering scholorships.

Not only would it cost the participant €30k to enroll, but also whatever they would earn (if they worked) from Sep-July.
That's a trainload of cash !

Economists call that "Opportunity Cost." It applies to any education or training, since the student will forego income while studying. You have to look at the opportunity cost plus the direct cost (tuition) and decide if the investment will bring a return in the form of a job that pays enough to have made the total cost of training worthwhile.

€30,000 + lost wages = more than the average American and likely more than the average European earns in a year. Photography used to be a working-class trade; now only the rich need apply.

You can still make your way the old fashioned way. No one is twisting your arm to attend this course.

But part of business success is technical competence, the other part is contacts. For 30K euro you get some technical training but you are also being introduced to a lot of professionals and other people in the industry. The bios of many of today's respected and successful photographers tell stories of their apprenticeship with successful photographers in their youth.

If I were single and able to move to Paris for one year I would have already filled out the application. This is a terrific opportunity to work directly with Magnum and meet the people they know.
