Wax paper good enough for gear storage?

A few years of GAS have filled my closet with gear that I don’t have the time to use and can’t bring myself to sell since I would probably end up buying it all back sooner or later. It occurred to me that it might be a good idea to think of a better storage method than just plastic boxes (mostly) and camera bags (some gear) in my closet. Since I live in Arizona (“it’s a dry heat”), I am not too worried about fungus – or should I be? The storage boxes I use now are well ventilated and get a decent amount of natural light. I guess my question is – is controlled humidity environment necessary to prevent the drying of the various lubricants inside the lenses and camera bodies? Would wrapping the gear in some kind of wax paper or some such thing be a good idea? I’d greatly appreciate your advice and opinions.

I am not sure about the wax paper idea but I can say you should set a reminder for yourself to regularly cycle the cameras and lenses to keep the lubricants OK. By that I mean...say once a month take your cameras and work them, without film, through all speed settings. With lenses, work them through all f-stops and manipulate the focus rings through their entire range of motion.

I have found this works well for me, mileage may vary 🙂

Wax paper? I would have never thought of placing expensive equiptment in wax paper while living in a very hot region of the world.

What I meant was using some kind of slightly "greasy" paper, such as is sometimes used to wrap machine parts.. well, maybe it's not such a great idea after all 🙂
