weekend shooting

this weekend is the local folk music festival.
i used to shoot it as a volunteer for nearly 20 years.

i managed to wrangle a free weekend pass and plan to head out there for sat & sun shooting.
thursday and friday have been cool and wet and i wimped out.

as a volunteer i had backstage access and shot with 17-35 / 80-200 zooms on auto focus eos bodies. it was sweet.

but now i'm just part of the audience and plan on shooting the goings on rather than the performances.

i find in these situations that i want to take every peice of gear i own.

i've 'pared' it down to the zi body alone mated with 21/28/50/90 lenses.

lots of film and spare batteries for the zi.

i might mate the 21 with a cl to lessen the lens changes at the expense of a bit of extra weight.

Hope you are having a great day. Perhaps after today you will be able to cut your kit down to a working rig for tomorrow. I always find that no matter how many lens I take, I always take 90% of my shots with one. So today, hopefully you get a feel for what works best and tomorrow slim down the kit, enjoy the music and just let the photography happen.

Too late now, but event photography works well with two bodies to save time changing films and lenses. Maybe the 21 on one body and a 40 on the other?

I would take one body and your 28/1,9, 40/1,4 and 90/2,8 no flash and then shoot black and white also of the audience! Enjoy!

just got back.
had to cut the day short - too pooped to party.

i thought i was in better shape than it appears i really am.
the festival is situated on a hill, a natural amphitheatre but hard on the cardio system with alot of up and down walking to the various stages. (there are 7 of them)
i wound up (foolishly) taking 3 lenses and 3 bodies, no lens changing no waiting😉

barely used the 50, used the 25 and the 90.
if i make it back there tomorrow, i'm using the small domke, one bady and the 28/90. i really want to try the new 28/1.9
the 90/2.8 feels great on the cl but tomorow it will share time on the zi.

I have been waiting for an event like that which pulls at my heartstrings. I think I will just go to the local strip mall. sigh. I'm thinking maybe the 150mm and the 50mm, and one body. That will fill up a shopping cart (I have a Super Press 23 😀)

BTW, I am glad it wasn't the other type of weekend shooting. I've got to move away from the DC area. 😀

Glad to hear you had some fun, Joe, and got off some shots. If you're going light tomorrow, with one body and lens, then why burden yourself with a bag at all? Stuff a spare battery and some film in your pocket, and go! 🙂

This morning I went to the local Farmers Market for only the second time this year, enjoyed conversations, finished a roll, shot all of a second, bought some pastries and went home. One body with CV 40mm lens. Never thought about needing anything else, but would have been just as happy with a 28 or 75 I think.

i like the security of a bag if it rains. today there was a 10 minute downpour that included hail. it was sunny before and after the rain/hail.

i love the framer's market. i shoot there almost every saturday morning but i'm still waiting for that one really good shot.

so i took the zi and the cv 28 and hex 90.
the 90 never left the bag. i shot with the 28 only and not all that often.

my old body was too tuckered out to foster much enthusiasm for much.

i think i shot 3 rolls for both days, pitiful.
