These two pictures were taken with my M2. They were taken by different lenses and were developed at different labs. My question is, what is that dark stripe at the top😡? Those dark stripes also show on the negatives. Seems like all photo-problems are stripe-related.

I don't think it is the narrow stripe that is the problem, but rather the rest of the image which seems to have been exposed to 'false' light.
A while back I saw something similar on the negs from my M2 which I ended up concluding was caused by the change of lenses in bright light.
Try to check to see if you have switched lenses between the problematic shot and the following, and perhaps if you can remember if there was bright lighting when you changed lens.
It may be remedied by improving the light sealing by the shutter, which is not that good on a M2. I personally never bothered - I just take care about changing lenses in the shade.

It does look a lot like this one of mine, which was caused by my not being careful when changing lenses. I allowed the camera to face into the sun. Bright direct light can leak through the channel that the shutter curtain rides in.

That could probably be it. It is something I have to get used to with a camera that's almost 50 years old now. I'm not sure when I actually took the lens off...I usually won't crank the shutter advance until I see something else to take a picture of, so that would be an explanation. Thank you both.

Niels and Chris have told you what is the problem. It's possible to live happily -- until the next CLA -- merely by taking care when changing lenses. Doesn't seem to me there's any danger of the wrong kind of light getting through a lens. This has to do with a light shield ordinarily blocked by the mount of a lens.

i've seen the same light pattern on my negatives after walking around with my M3 and collapsible with the lens cap off. i now always have a cap on until its time to shoot. pain in the butt...

I'd take nothing for granted, aaron.tam. I had a IIIc whose lower light shield leaked just after an overhaul. It was easy for my technician to fix but quite beyond my abilities. LChanyungco's experience suggests that you may be in bigger trouble.
