Weird question on Hi-Matic 9 RF alignment

Hi.
My hi-matic 9 is acting weird. I aligned the rangefinder horizontally, put the top cover back and noticed that there's a VERTIVCAL misalignment. Hm-hm I said, me stupid. Removed the top cover to correct it, but then the misalignment misteriously disappeared.
Put the top cover back, it was there again.

It's not a very big problem, as the horiz.alignment stays ok, but it's annoying that the two images never truly overlap with the top cover on.

Anyone had the same experience? Any ideas how to solve this?
I'm not overtightening any screws, and the top cover is immaculate (not bent or anything).

I would open the camera and see if you can duplicate the problem by pressing down on suspect areas. If you can, maybe it will give a clue to the problem. I have had stuff like this before on other cameras, it will drive you crazy. My worst was figuring out why the Canon 7 would release properly with the cover off, but not with the cover on...

The top cover has glass on the front viewfinder/rangefinder openings doesn't it? My Himatic 11 does. Perhaps this is not seated in the housing and is creating a slight "prism" effect.
