Welcome To The Camera Collector

Hi Everybody, I'm just getting started here so please let me know what's on your mind so I can get a handle on posting replies and content. As you may know I'm an expert on analog photography with vintage cameras, but 60% of what I shoot is digital using some of the latest gear, and I've written countless reviews and test reports on current cameras and lenses so (almost) anything goes. My goal is to make this informative and fun.

Cheers, Jason Schneider

Welcome Jason,

I also was a Modern Photography subscriber and an avid reader of your columns, then I would head on to the Olden's ads.

I thoroughly enjoyed reading your articles and seeing photos the beautiful cameras I had never heard of.

You are responsible for my introduction and love affair with Pen Fs, thank you!

Thanks again....

David

You still have the beard. No longer black though -:) Your stupid articles years ago started me on the long, dark road of GAS. All your fault.

Glad to see you'll be on RFF

Welcome!

I hope to finally get the answer as to whether Leica use the Zenit 212 as the inspiration for the design of the R8.

Welcome Mr. Schneider! Were it not for your articles, I might never have learned of Samoca cameras: I suspect that somewhere out there is a Samoca Super Rangefinder with my name on it.

Welcome aboard!

Looking forward to reading whatever you choose to share with us!

I have a small and not especially well focused (ahem. Sorry.) collection. I started out buying all the cameras I drooled over when I was a teenager--meaning 70s and 80s--but couldn't afford then. As digital took over the photographic world, I've been fortunate enough to have owned mostly all of those. And have kept very few of them.
But, occasionally, I still see something in a junk store or antique mall that catches my interest and, if I have the cash, I'll bring home a "new" toy.
Still good fun!

Rob

Hi Jason,

As a budding photographer back in the 60' and 70's I would devour each issue of Modern and Popular Photography, waiting impatiently for it to arrive I would drop all other activities and read it cover to cover same day. Thank you for such great memories and information . Similar to you I miss Herbert Kepler (Kepler on the SLR), having never met him personally his writing style conveyed so much to be admired. I am not a serious collector, more a user, my favorite collectibles were from the height of (imho) mechanical manufacturing, the 50's, 60's and 70's, some Leica, Alpa many Japanese cameras, Canon F1, Minolta SRt-101, Topcon RE. Zeiss, my beloved Contaflex Beta, my first slr, who can ever forget their first. Now in my 60's I am happy to find new homes for the most usable and collectible, including a Kodak Ektra rangefinder. I would be interested to hear what you have to say about the phenomenon of ebay and online selling that opened the world to collecting and purchasing difficult sourced items. I remember many of my collectibles plummeting in value in the late 90's and just now rebounding in value. At the same time lenses became more valuable than the bodies they were purchased with. Lastly, can you provide links to your recent camera evaluations, reviews, tests? Thank you

Hi, Jason. Your articles in Modern were always informative and fun. We corresponded with each other several times in the 1970-71 when I only owned Nikon and was first researching the early history of the RF Nikons. Which led to my book on the same topic many years later. I remember you ran a contest to design an original camera which I entered (but did not win). I still have clippings of many of your columns, but, alas, not all of them. Good to see you here. WES LODER
