What’s your favorite DSLR (Gen 1 - 12mp or less)

My first DSLR as well as first digital camera was a Canon 30D. It was a pretty sweet camera for 8MP. But I recently started using Nikons again for the first time in 20 years and I found a barely used D700 online cheap. I've been very impressed with this old camera, more so than most of the more modern DSLRs and mirrorless cameras I've tried with two or three times the megapixels. I really enjoy using the D700 and the files are pretty nice. Older digitals are a bargain and they still do as good a job as they ever did.
 
The D700 is a wonderful camera.

I apparently excluded it from the list of cameras I’ve used... hmm.

I was very happy with my D700 - my friend Blake gave me his D3 in a trade for a Xpro1 so D700 was sold and I kept the old cracked up D3 with equal happiness.

I regret letting the D3 go... it had issues and would require routine poking... but still now that Blake’s gone.. that’s the one camera of his I would like have back.
 
Never owned a 5D “Classic”

Took a risk on a really cheap one.
Just grabbed a BGE4 cheap as well.

I was kind of torn between Canon and Nikon.

Owned enough Nikons I guess.

Next will either be a D200 or a 20D.

Figure I can use my AI glass on the Canons no problem.

For some months, I used the Canon 400D with 10mp at work, and then got my 30D with 8mp in 2007. Used the heck out of it, and still have it along with a couple of EF-S lenses. I'm able to get much better results with it now, thanks to improvements in my shooting technique and processing of raw files.


I've been intrigued by the thought of a Nikon D700 for a while, since Raid posted about buying one. There has been some spectacular work done with the D700.
 
Perhaps my most enjoyable photo trip was to Bermuda, where I brought a 24/2.8 and a 50/1.8 with a D300, when it was the latest model and there was no full frame Nikon.

I wouldn’t hesitate to take the same exact kit on another trip today, even though I have a much more modern mirrorless that spec-wise beats the old camera in every way.

I always deal with Ffordes ,who are excellent, but recently came across MPB and was curious .
 
For years I used the 6mp Nikon D50. I loved that camera and it many ways it is all I needed really. The viewfinder was a bit small and ISO limit was 1600 otherwise it was a fine camera. I gave that camera to my young niece as her first camera and I moved on to the D300 which I still have and use. That's my newest Nikon DSLR. Love the viewfinder but honestly, I miss the D50.
 
I've bought a few items from MPB - only had one problem with a lens that had an intermittent fault that they accepted back without argument. All the other items were as described and prices are usually competitive. I've had better experiences with them than with camerajungle.co.uk (jessops used site) - they really overrate the condition.
 
I've bought a ton of stuff from MPB USA in the last few months--cameras, lenses, battery grips, used batteries--and they have all been reliable and cheap. I really like that they show you pictures of the actual item you're buying.

Only a 6mp APS-C sensor, and almost the bottom of the Pentax range when it came out, but it was an astonishingly capable little beastie.

I had the K200D. Looking back, I have to say I enjoy the colour of the files from this camera more than most of the cameras since. It really did the job.

But my favorite is the original Canon 5D (Mk I). I upgraded to a 5D Mk II but it just never clicked with me. The simplicity and the film-like look of the Mk I just suited me better. It's still a great camera even today, and pretty much the only DSLR I still shoot.

Nikon D700, D3, Leica M8 are all mine. I chased mega pixels for a while, but review the above shows me they get the job done.
Fortunately I still have them and use them.
 
I have a Nikon D700, EOS1D markIII (really great camera's) just at
times 10 and 12 megapixels are fine, plus the higher in MP's you go, you all
need better lenses to handle it.
 
Really considering a 40/2.8 STM as I hear so many rave reviews.

I sold my trust old 50/1.8 MkI - but the 40 is about the same price and obviously coooooler 😉
