For the person who wants great pictures and is not hung up on getting a fancy label with Zeiss on it the Konica Hexanon is the equal of the Zeiss. Your photograhy will not be hindered. If you can find a Hexanon in good Condition get it. The build quality is excellent. The price may be slightly but not much cheaper because the Hexanon are sought after like a cult by knowledgeable people.

Well I guess I was lucky to find a EXC+ Hex from a reputable dealer (matsuyastore) at 600$. In transit, I should receive it next week...
Only problem is that it comes without the hood.
Any suggestion about how to get one?

I wonder which lenses has medium or lower contrast (not very ultra high contrast)? I think new Biogon has too much contrast for my liking (I use digital rd1 too) so I looking for a lens which has similiar contrast like 35lux preasph, SAngulon etc.

I've used two of them from the seventies, the pre-asph Elmarit 28/2.8 and the Rokkor 28/2.8. Very similar lenses.
I bought the Rokkor because of its tiny size, even smaller than the current Elmarit asph BTW.
Anyway, both should match your 35, if it's not too early, as well as the SA 21/3.4.
The SA 21/4 is earlier than the latter, would need an Elmarit 28/2.8 first version at first glance but i have no experience with both.

It is its reputation and I once compared it to a rokkor M and indeed it had a lower contrast than the rokkor

That sounds very interesting. I hope price of version 1.9 drops so low when some buy f2 instead
I feel no hurry since I have Cv 25mm but f1.9 would be cool (it is 2 stops difference to 25mm)

good idea. it will be tough for me check prices in ebay. so many SLR lenses there, lol. How is flare resistance? since it is wide so it is more I have to deal with, hm.

The Ultron 28/2 looks promising. See http://www.l-camera-forum.com/leica-forum/leica-m8-forum/60967-new-cv-ultron-28mm-f2-m8.html

Nice!!! But prices these days seems to have crept up. For just a bit more, a new Voigtlander 28mm f/2 will be within reach.

I bought the Ultron 28/2, it is a gem, way better than the Ultron 28/1.9.

Don't know how the others perform, but I own the Ultron 28/1.9 and it's a fantastic lens. Ultra sharp, very controlled contrast, not over the top, but not low, and great price.
If I had to mention the faults, to say something minor: I little big, but coming from the DSRL world this lens is tiny, and the controls are a bit on the stiff side compared to my 50 cron, but it doesn't bother me. LTM mount. Another non problem for me, as I have a Voigtlander M adapter permanently attached to it.
This summer I've used the 50/28 combo on a 10 day trip to Germany, and the pics I have from the 28 are great, on par with those of the 50 cron. I've shot some night exposures of the Köln Dome at f2 at 1/2 sec, that are really great.
Bottom line, a very good lens.

If you like it, then it is a good photo. Here is a shot taken this week end at Hong Kong Dog Rescue.
Leica M8 + Ultron 28/2
I don't know if it is a good photo but I quite like it.
I also personally think it is a good one, the perspective effect is very strong and the transition from dark to bright is good.

When you guys use the 28mm lens on the RD1, what framelines do you use?

The RD-1 framelines are nowhere near accurate but that is just a limitation of the rangefinder. I felt that the 35mm framelines better match 40mm lenses and the 28mmm framelines are slightly too wide for 35mm lenses but way too tight for 28mm lenses. You might want to just use the 28mm framelines for your 28mm lens but then also have a separate 40mm finder when you need better accuracy.

Ultron for me.

I really like my Konica Hexanon-M 28/2.8. To me, it has a beautiful smooth color rendition, yet it is very sharp with low distortion (not as low as Zeiss Biogan though). The built quality of the Hexanon is really first class. It is much better build than Zeiss ZM. I think even Leica should learn a thing or two from Konica.
