i bought some uv filters.
i don't normally use filters anymore but i figured maybe i would for windy days and snowy days.

i bought or traded for some leica, b&w and hoya filters and as a very cheap back up some no name filters.
all my lenses take either 43 or 46mm filters so it was relatively easy to do.

i bought, off ebay, a really cheap hoya uv filter and was feeling pretty smug in my most excellent value purchase.
on the ring it says phillipines and not japan. not a big deal i thought, maybe that's why it's cheaper, lower labour costs. and then i decided to check the auction site again and realized i had purchased a filter with no coating, at all. not even a single coat.

so it really is for protection only.

anyone have any experience with no coat uv filters?

That's something I've had the "pleasure" of doing too Joe- but I wonder - would the multicoating on your newer lenses help cut down any flare from the basic glass up front? i.e. is it going to make much of a difference?

I guess the moral of the story for us is not too spend $$ on MC lenses & put a coke bottle up front :bang:

Hey Joe,

You got off easy!
I made the fatal mistake of selling some of my Leica ltm lenses years ago, only to replace them later, at two or three times the selling price!

Cheers,
kf
