Years ago, back in the mid 70s. A passerby on catching up with me after me running to get a shot and my 28mm Nikkor having fallen out of my open bag and me not noticing it:
“Sir, I think you dropped this.”
Flattened focussing ring and smashed filter, the lens was irreparable.
Took me a year to save for another. Still hurts, though now I have insurance.
