What are you listening to at the moment?

Supersilent, Supersilent 6.

I've had all the Supersilent records for ages, but never really got round to listening to them properly until recently. They're all excellent, but this is my favourite.

Editors "End has a start". A concept album about death no less. Not exactly cheery summer music but has matched my mood and that of the English weather quite well. Lead singer sounds more and more like Ian Curtis (Anton Corbijn-shot biopic on the way ) every day...

White Stripes "Icky Thump". Yeah, its the Stripes, they rock, Jack's a genius, etc. Love the side 3 weirdness (yep, you can get it on audiophile vinyl...)

Biffy Clyro "Puzzle". I was really reticent about this album but my brother kept hassling me to listen to it. Its a real grower, and the last track is jawdropping and life-changing in a kick up the arse kind of way, particularly if you've gone through the pain of loss...

Have you listened to the Arcade Fire's Funeral? You might like it.

What songs are on side 3?

Yeah, Funeral's great. The Polyphonic Spree and Mercury Rev I've always liked, and AF are just an extension of that...

Side three songs are the Scottish flavoured ones banging on about thistles and St Andrew, highly impressive weirdness...

Probably the most appropriate place for this rather than starting a new thread. Just been announced that Anthony Wilson has died of cancer :(

For those that aren't of a certain age and Mancunian he was the man responsible for Joy Division, New Order, The Hacienda, Acid House (in the UK), and the Happy Mondays. Started off as a roving reporter/anchorman on UK regional commercial television in the late 70s, saw the Pistols play the Free Trade Hall in Manchester and changed the face of British music as a result. Up there with John Peel in importance to the UK music scene. Gave all those late '70s punk and post-punk bands their only access to mainstream TV coverage.

Strangely enough was listening to New Order on the way home this evening, chuckling to myself how they thought that "Blue Monday" wouldn't sell so they could afford to make art with the sleeve and lose a few pence per record. Went on of course to sell millions and every die-cut sleeve version they sold they lost money on. Rubbish businessman, the ultimate accidental philanthropist.

I'm off to crank "Love Vigilantes" up to 11 and then listen to Unknown Pleasures with a wee (read that as large) snifter of Ardbeg...

A true great of the 20th C...

A 2005 album called Silva by Vinicius Cantuaria.

I never heard of him either - picked it up when Tower Records went out of business (sob)

Soothing Brazilian bossa-nova (and a cup of tea) after a long, very rainy day.

"Absolute Garbage" - their new greatest hits compilation. The remixes are fun, but they're at their best live and cranking.
