What are you listening to at the moment?

I've got the gorgeous and incredibly talented Diana Krall in my living room, singing to me about The Look Of Love right now
That's a good idea... off to dig through my CD collection.

Madonna - Confessions on a dance floor

The retro sounds of this new album makes me want to take my clothes off and boogie...

Guillaume Tell from Rossini
(Royal Philharmonic, Ambrosian Opera Chorus; Caballe, Gedda et al.)

And tonight: the Nutcracker at the Royal Opera House.

I need help ;)

My new MP3 player should be here today. Now I just need to steal a 19 year old kid to teach me how to use it.

JJ Johnson this morning, sampling music at the VERVE web site.

U2 - How to dismantle an atomic bomb

Been playing "Sometimes you can't make it on your own" over and over again...

I got an ipod shuffle for Christmas. I loaded albums by: Led Zepalin, Paul Simon, Eric Clapton, U2, Crosby Stills Nash and Young, Blue Rodeo, and Susan Latimer (local artist). I want to get some Tragically Hip in there too.

FrankS... I was listening to "Road Apples" just the other day. Tragically Hip rules.

I've been on a serious alt.country bender for a few years now.

Robert Earl Keen
James McMurtry - Childish Things
Patty Griffin
Mindy Smith
Old Crow Medicine Show (Great!)
Gillian Welch (the BEST)

...are some of the recent faves...

Currently John Coltrane - Impressions, recently Django Reinhart and Stephan Grapelli, plus The Very Best of Cream

Odd combination?

Joan Baez.

Not 'Dark Chords...' by any chance Bill? I saw her in concert at the Denver Botanic Gardens 2 summers ago... She is amazing live! Unfortunately I was in nappies in her early days, but to see her now is still really cool.

Cheers!

Peter

Has anyone watched the Bob Dylan DVD, No Direction Home? Joan Biaez figured prominently in Dylan's early years. Dylan wrote hauntingly beautiful protest songs, but bailed-out when he had the chance to make a difference. When he spoke to some government committee he was invited to, the best he could come up with was to comment on the government leaders' lack of hair. It is almost as though he was a channel for some great music, but personally was not so deep. There is some opportunity for camera-spotting in the vintage footage: Nikon F, Leica M, Rolleiflex.
