What are you listening to at the moment?

Since we jumped to the next page: I'm referring to raydm6's post regarding Radio Garden. I've always found it fascinating to be able to drag my pointer to some hamlet in Sumatra, or Alaska and hear what the people there are listening to. Cheers, OtL

I have been watching the old 1970's BBC version of Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy with Sir Alec Guiness. Wow! They knew how to make miniseries back then - by modern story telling standards, almost nothing happens but it is such a captivating yarn. No car chases, no explosions, no shootouts. Just good old-fashioned story telling. Most of all perhaps, I fell in love this theme track "Nunc Dimittis" based on Anglican liturgical music. That crystal clear voice! This rendition was penned by Geoffrey Burgon who also wrote the Brideshead Revisited theme.
(Also check out the name of the trumpeter.

So, I am listening to "Nunc Dimittis".

A masterpiece. I've watched it more than once. You'll also find Smiley's People on YouTube. At one time, A Perfect Spy was available, but not any longer. Thanks for posting the link to Nunc Dimittis. Cheers, OtL

Una Pistola Per Ringo/Il Ritorno De Ringo soundtrack album by the Maestro, Ennio Morricone. Top class spaghetti Western music, circa late 1960's.

Once again this morning, discovered a few years ago, jazz-fusion: Lingus, from Snarky Puppy, led by Michael League.

Yes, quite the performance and ensemble playing. That keyboard solo (Cory Henry)! ...(opening the solo with the bell-like Fender Rhodes type chord-clusters, and also - about 1:40 in again, the chord-clusters on the left-hand accompanying his synth riffing - remind me a bit of Chick Corea's work during the RTF's 'No Mystery' era). Amazing!!

Classic Joe Cocker - The Universal Masters Collection
15 tracks of the one-and-only Joe Cocker!

I bought this CD a few days ago at a used CD shop in Yokohama for 480 yen ($3.70), it was in mint condition.

Lordy! that man sings like no one else can and I love it! I've been a fan of his since the '70s.

"Sinatra at the Sands"
With Count Basie & the Orchestra
Arranged & Conducted by Quincy Jones

22 tracks of live entertainment. A 50 year old Frank Sinatra at the top of his game performing live; note that I say "performing" instead of "singing". This is Frank putting on a "show" with one of the greatest bands on Earth! If you're of an age that watched and enjoyed Johnny Carson, then this is an album for you. I have it on CD, I wish I had the original vinyl LP.

All the best,
Mike
