What are you listening to at the moment?

Sad news today - Composer Burt Bacharach dies at 94.

I have a large collection Burt Bacharach / Hal David CDs. Many of them are compilations of various performers singing the hits of Bacharach and David. I'll be listening to some of them today.

RIP Burt.

Natacha Kurditskaya playing JP Rameau’s Gavotte and Six Doubles on a Yamaha grand. This film is superb and matches the pianist, her hands and her playing, and Rameau and this piece.

The film maker is Simon Bouisson. Ingenious. So intimate. And folk of RFF, black and white like the piano.

Steve Tyrell “Shades Of Ray” The Songs of Ray Charles (CD)

It seems that there are two kinds of people - them that love Steve Tyrell, and them that strongly dislike him. I guess his singing voice is not everybody's cup of tea. I'm a big fan of his singing voice, I've got all his CDs.

This (new not used) CD cost me ¥394 (tax included) from Amazon Japan; that’s $2.98 U.S. dollars. WTF! Why so cheap? This is a legitimate CD, not a fake, sounds terrific, 16 great songs.

Anyway, that’s what I’m listening to now.

All the best,
Mike

Here's Brian's group The Fellowship performing one of his compositions with the Frankfort Radio Big Band. He's so much fun to watch while he's drumming, such a great composer, such a sweet guy.

The entire concert is also on YouTube.

"The New Bossa Nova" by Luciana Souza. Played on a pair of Ampex 6973 mono block amps, Bottlehead Moreplay preamp and a pair of EPI 100 speakers.

Here is a photo of my latest amplifier, JBL SA-600, a friend gave it to me last week.

I actually have a couple 6973 tubes. Not common. Supposed to be quite good. Nothing to stick them in....yet...It may have to be an "in house" creation.

BTW, The New Bossa Nova....a really good album. Sometimes a little slow, but good.

On my tablet, looking around...earbuds in, cord connected but nothing playing...
Listening to the non-stop ringing in my ears...

I quit using earbuds about 6 years ago when I started to get tinnitus. It helped.

I also try to listen to podcasts, music and TV at the lowest volume possible (without sacrificing the quality of the sound). That helped too.

All the best,
Mike
