What are you listening to at the moment?

Jamie Cullum (www.jamiecullum.com)

If you haven't checked out this guy yet - do yourself a favour and do.
There are some soundclips on his site.

Went to his concert yesterday evening and it was brilliant.

Cowboy Junkies - The Trinity Session, great late night music.
Damn...I'm about to put that on.

You know, you guys might be a bit too erudite for your own good. :D

At any given time it's usually something like Neil Young or Tom Petty. You know. Real, straightforward, organic rock and roll. Along these lines, I've also rediscovered Sheryl Crow.

For some reason lately I've been stuck on "New Slang" by The Shins, though (from Garden State if you've seen that movie). I'm not sure why -- it's "alternative" and kind of monotonous and doesn't go anywhere and I don't really like any of the other songs by them I've heard -- but it's moody and gets to me and I listen to it over and over, which I never normally do even with songs that I like. It's been driving my boyfriend nuts, but he makes me listen to John Fahey so I figure fair's fair.

Right now I think I'm going to put on some Harry Belafonte and listen to "Jamaica Farewell" before bed.

"Extremely Cool", gotta love this guy - even given that "Chucky's In Love" song from the seventies (yup, this is who Ricky Lee Jones was singing about) - very hard to reconcile that song and his music, but then again, it was written about him not by him. And it was the 70's....

By Chuck, I like "It Raiins On Me." Good CD: Extremely Cool.

To be fair, I'm listening to CW right now, trying to find a Hellschreiber contact.

Anyone wanna chat on 7.0402?

Good pick - I also really like "Just Don't Care" and "Oh Marcy". Of course if you are looking for something to put a smile on your face you cant go wrong with "Deeply Sorry" :D - he's got a very twisted sense of humor, I love it!

And last night was Don Fagan in concert (scratches an accomplishment off the Life List)

So... I'm listening to Steely Dan in my head: "FM: No Static At All"

Lucinda Williams, "Lucinda Williams" - can't decide which I like more, this or "Sweet Old World", both excellent albums. Highly recommend giving them both a listen.

The rise and fall of Ziggy Stardust.

Sometimes friends are worse than enemies! A friend converted my 1969 Braun PS420 from a Shure M75 to a more modern, and still available, pick up.
It's now better than new and I'm playing all that old vinyl which was on the shelf for more than a decade.

But after this track I have to go to bed, tomorrow after work I'll start with "Too old to rock and roll, to young to die"

Sasha Lazard's new album Moonfall.

I loved her first album The Myth of Red, but this album really showcases her voice to stunning effect.

Recommended.

Have been enjoying Elliott Smith's last (From A Basement On The Hill) and right this second the new Josh Ritter (The Animal Years) - each awesome in its own, different way.

Had a lovely Vinyl evening yesterday. I happen to have a large number of the Mercury Jazz masters series LP's, so starting with Miles Davis, Ascenseur pour l'Echafaud, one of the most poignant jazz records ever made, via super-smooth talking-piano Teddy Wilson Trio (man, that was a Basin Street Blues) and Sarah Vaughan, som Bobby Hackett and Jack Teagarden,I pulled out some old 78's and cranked up the 1905 Maestosophone: Paul Whiteman, Satchmo, and finished off with Bix Beiderbecke.... Great!
