What are you listening to at the moment?

A shuffling iPod: a Garbriel Yared soundtrack piece, which fits nicely as the sun drops in the sky.

yeah...i dunno what it is. the more evil sounding the better in my book. hehehe. i dig on sixtoo as well. my vinyl collection is mostly downtempo. dark groovy jazz being my favorite (and amon tobin is probably my favorite artist in the genre if i had to pick one).

Hey!

Amon tobin is great! I'm a total junkie for downtempo, Sixtoo being my favorite producer by a mile. I like the dark stuff from whatever genre, I just happen to be listening to dark, techy DnB of late.

Currently listening to;
Godspeed You Black Emperor! - The Dead Flag Blues (12" version), Mindblowing, Beautiful, Sad, Epic music!!

My record buying days ended when I started getting seriously into photography, fingers crossed I'll soon have an income that allows me to run the two habits simultaneously ( all be it modestly). 2 Technics 1200's and 2 Leicas plus a ton of vinyl and Tri-x would make me very happy indeed :)

Reanimator - whensummerturns < Awesome dark Downtempo.

funny...i found the same thing about my hobbies! i also design/build tube amps, so that has taken a back seat. i'm trying to condense my photo kit and just worry about shooting so i can get back into collecting records and building amps.

...not listening to anything but a fan right now...

yeah...i'll end up w/ one body and a lens or two when i'm done selling stuff.

two more of my favorites! i love basically anything on ninjatune. i own almost the complete catalog (until the most recently releases where it gets spotty).

have you heard the loka album that came out last year (fire shepherds)? you must pick it up if not! and another great one (mix) is the "cold krush cuts". it's coldcut on one disc and dj krush on the other. lots of great tunes from when it came out.

I'll take a look to this Loka album..i dind't heard it..but the great dj krush..Impressive!! i really like his work...
Really like all ninja tune stuff..dj vadim, funki porcini, fink..also like mo' wax 9ts stuff..

I like Dj shadow too, the last album is a little lazy except for the 2nd cut..this time...great tune!!

oh yeah...mowax was the other label i heavily collected in the mid-late 90s. and naturally dj shadow was a favorite. i didn't even get his newest album because so many people said it sucked.

the loka is more spy-jazz kinda stuff...but still great.

did you ever get into wagon christ / luke vibert? check him out if you haven't.

and not sure if you're into other types of hip-hop...but the new el-p album is great (i'll sleep when you're dead)!!

oh...and how about "one self - children of possibility"? it's dj vadim w/ a couple other people. GREAT album!! i could go on forever ;)

I also try to keep gear to the minimum, an m4-2 with a 35 2.5 and hopefuly soon a 50 1.5 is pretty will be pretty much all I need, Oh, and an old rolleiflex comes in handy sometimes.

Havn't heard Loka, sounds like the kind of stuff I'll love! I almost accidently bought coldkrushcuts back when i was 14 or so, I was really into stuff like Mos Def at the time so it took a while for me to get into it, that record was my introduction to downtempo (along with Endtroducing), Dj Krushes disk might just be my most played record, perfect 3am music!

I love El-P's stuff

Canibal Ox - the Cold Vain is an alltime favorite allong with Co-flo funcrusher plus and Fantastic Damage, not so fond of some of the newer Def Jux stuff, haven't heard his new album though.

Jel - Channel Assign < another good downtempo producer

i dig theivery corp, but haven't heard david holmes. i'll have to check it out! and tell me about it (re: the long list). SO many things i have on my "need to get" list that it's outta control :D

heiro are some of my favorites too. del and casual being two of my favorite MCs!

it's a great album. i do agree that the newer def jux stuff isn't the best, but this one is a stand out.

as for jel...i haven't heard that album, but have his newest (soft money). i reviewed that one for anthem magazine. i love it. there's this track "thrashin" on there that is one of my all time favorites. i'll have to look into his other stuff too!
