You may have heard of Orientalism by Edward Said. Excellent book that puts imperialism in its place. I went down that road in college and am happy I did.
Interesting note about John Stuart Mill in the opening chapter... He never believed his theories of utilitarianism could apply to Indians. No coincidence he was British and the Indians were under British rule at the time.

Real Men Shoot Film.
I know the Durants. That's a big series of big books. Ariel gets involved in later volumes. I think along with her contribution to the text, I think she was responsible for most of the imagery editing.
One if my favorite quotes is from Will Durant:
“A lust for power underlay all forms of political behavior.”
I have the full set, except the one on the Reformation. I loaned it to a friend who disappeared with it about 12 yrs ago.
