There's quite a bit of talk about gear on this site, so thought I would start a topic to hear more about what people are actually shooting. Very interested because there is such a variety of people here.
So, what are you working on? [personal projects, or maybe a commercial one that you are personally interested in? or just a certain subject or style you've been shooting recently...]
Maybe tell us some details,
What are you shooting with, how are you planning to present the images?
Most importantly, why are you shooting it?

I will post my own answer in a bit as it might be a bit long, don't want to make first post so long...
 
Personal project - I shot several rolls of film while visiting Mexico this past august. I think close to 30 rolls. I have most of it scanned, and plan to do the post in photoshop and make inkjet prints. It was mostly Ektachrome and Kodachrome, but I did shoot some portra 160, and trix. I still need to develop the Tri x.

I've been a bit side tracked lately, and have been working with my 4x5 camera.

This is an interesting subject. I haven't been shooting specific projects, excepting documenting the university area of Albuquerque; but this has been primarily an ad hoc adventure, shooting when I'm in the area, or at my favorite coffee shop hangout (Winning Coffee).

But I've been thinking that I have the gear adequate to do a real documentary project. And I have some degree of camera skills, and have developed a certain aesthetic and eye; although I'll also admit that my indoor flash skills are limited. Still, I have enough tools available in my personal toolbox that I really need to start doing something "real" with them.

I need to find a "scene," some local group or vignette, that I'm interested in exploring further; and develop some relationships therein.

And (thinking literally as I'm typing this) I figure that the place to start practicing my documentary skills is literally at home, with my family, and moving outward from there, as my circle of influence and interest expands.

Thanks for the nudge. Now, I think I have some work to do.

My oldest project, which I am still working on, is my documentation of the forgotten and unseen places in northern Indiana, where I grew up.

I've been getting acquainted with my newfound love in rangefinders!
Which basically means shooting anything and everything that I find interesting, everyday life, people, farming equipment, mechanical devices, anything i find that may help me explore the limits of the camera. Proof of my rabble on my flickr.
 
Picture-A-Day Project. I take at least one photo every day and update my gallery and facebook with the results. Not every day results in something brilliant, but I like the challenge of trying to stay creative.

I've always wanted to do creepy dolls and Chris inspired me to start. It's ongoing.

I also want to start a new project... had it in my mind for a while and it will all be on film with an ultra wide-angle lens. If it comes to fruition, I'll share 🙂
 
Good question apconan. At present not a lot but i want to do a local series on unused and tumble down rural properties/buildings and/ or another on unusual daily transport around here. There are enough eccentrics to make it worthwhile, [even got a guy goes to work on his horse]. Research stage at moment then more procrastination and i should be ready. Could be a while!

As for my own work, right now I'm focusing heavily on portraits and glamour/beauty. Since starting this up in January, I've just been shooting like mad - with 2-3 portrait sessions each week.
One nice thing about it is that I find myself with far less time/interest to buy and sell gear. I've sort of settled on a kit (a combination of RF and DSLR gear) that seems to do what I need it to do. I'd never say that I'll never buy or sell another lens. But my GAS has definitely subsided.

As to why? I've always been interested in photographing people - both for portraits and documentary photography. On the portrait side of it, I finally got tired of thinking about all the stuff I wanted to do and started doing it.

I like to shoot street scenes, unusual things and people of my hometown Vienna. It is an ongoing, personal project which will be probably take a lifetime 🙂

Special Interest in this everlasting project:
-to document the drug scene in the Metro and show how junkies can still have (and express) emotions like love and sympathy and to show how they interact with each other
-to show moments of happiness in the life of people
-and to capture the fact that the city and its people seem to be on the move and in a hurry constantly. This includes to contrast it against the few people who are not.

I also have this project to document a cement factory/graffity sprayers' paradise which is supposed to be torn down this year. Right now I am afraid to go there because of the snow - it would be too dangerous. Once everything has dried up, I'll be a happy trespasser again 🙂

Check out Larry Clark's book "Tulsa"

I think you'll find it inspiring. Eugene Richard's "Cocaine Blue, Cocaine True" is another good book of photographs documenting drug culture.

Thanks Tim. I've been so obsessed with my Dolls that I haven't shown much of my Indiana pictures, which I am still working on as well.
 
I mainly shoot photos of my friends and familly. With some of my friends I try when I can to document their fixed bike / bike polo fashion but it's very hard for me to have ongoing projects.
I used to shoot alot of concerts, now I'm just trying to shoot when I like the band.
And when I take a walk in my city I try to search for graphism but I don't find me good at it.
 
I am obsessed with back yard night scenes lately.

I got sort of caught on a wrong leg with switching different cameras too much in the last months and try to find my way in post processing with the last acquiring.
Once I have the knack, I will concentrate on shooting more and thinking less about computer stuff.
 
only because it is abundant and ubiquitous here in the NE US at the moment, I've been shooting lots of snow and ice. we're in the midst of another storm, so today, I will, no doubt, shoot some more falling snow. though I'm tired of it, the white stuff sure is pretty to look at when it's falling and fresh.

I too am doing a photo a day blog. Tough at times, ridiculously easy at times but a lot of fun.

Getting ready to do a story on Little League which I hope to publish as a blurb book or maybe try to get someone to publish.

Also working on a series on a local park I'm calling Lakeview.
