Ever wonder what many of us do with cameras in general? Let's find out what kind of Gear Acquisitor we are.

I'm a Collector - I acquire only mint things, preferably with a red dot, money is no problem to me. If the lens has been breathed on, if the manual has been opened, if the gold lettering on the box has been fingered, if the body has been dry-fired even once... Begone, you mangy trader!! What? you mean people actually use an Alpa?

I am a Cataloguer - I am curious about all kinds of camera, all models, from all eras, I get them, take a picture, use them, write about them, tag them with RFID, and let them go back into the bay.. I mean the wild. Those boring shots, eh... those are test roll shots, duh!

I am a Tinkerer - I hunt for broken cameras/lenses/bags, I fix'em then I keep'em or give'em away. Yes, I can make an adapter for your Jupiter to Uranus.

I am a Trader - I hunt for cheap cameras, talk the ear off a camera repairman to fix the broken ones, then I sell them high to my victims... I mean esteemed collectors...

I am a hardcore Photographer - My Leica Standard's serial number is off by only 1 number from HCB's. My lenses are all scratched and dinged up from use. And yes, dang it, I can kick your new 5D's picture's butt anytime of the day. What's e.. B...a...y ??

I am a Camera Geek - I can recite the result from the lens tests from 1965. I have to have the latest gadget. My M8 is the bomb and I heart N95. My pictures? errr... in the CF stack over there...

I am a professional Forum Troll - I'm only in RFF to irk people to death with my well-honed snide-remarking ability. Huh? how would they find out where I live?

If you read the post you'll see that he is all of the above. For myself I can't vote because Wannabe aint on the list. Thats what I am, a wannabe. I wannabe like Winogrand, HCB, and others. Probably in all reality that may never happen, but I'm having fun and feel blessed and if thats all I ever acheive then it's ok. If all I ever acheive is a good comment from my peers in the gallery, then I can lay down my head at night, smile and feel great about acomplishing something good. Thats what I am.🙂

This is just a result of the affluent society that we live in

I use, collect, sometime sell, have a file of info and "fondle"

I am not a GEEK as far as I am concerned

Therefore what are you trying to illustrate

I can say the same about a dozen other areas of my life

I guess that describes me too, though I also do derive real pleasure from hunting down that especially good deal to cure a bit of GAS. Oh... and I don't smoke as a habit, either. 🙄

I'd wager that most of us are a little of several of the above.
You might also include an answer like "I'm a shooter- my gear gets used to make images, and I take care of gear that works for me."

As an Engineer, I enjoy fine machines, which cameras are. I also enjoy art, and photography is my medium. I have a subatantial collection of antique cameras, and enjoy the history of photography. I like the technical aspects of film processing and printing.
Guess I just enjoy all aspects of photography - where ever that fits into the poll. 😎
