I am reorienting my Fuji G/GL690 series cache (hoard?) toward fewer bodies and cooler lenses. But this gets me to thinking: what are the things you really want to find in terms of bodies, lenses, and other?

I think I prefer the GL over the BL due to the viewfinder FOV being tighter.

I've only shot with the 100mm and the 150mm. But the 180 doesn't seem different enough from the 150 to justify it. The other lenses sound great in theory and I am sure they are.

The AE also sounds great. How about telling us whats in the cache 😛?

I'm still salivating at the thought of affixing a 50mm Mamiya 6.3 (made for the Press Universal) to my GL body.

Btw Dante, on another note, I was looking for the Mamiya Press review from you but was sad to not find one.

Hey Jchrome -

I mainly use the 50, so it's my 100, 150 and 180 that gets little play... And that's about as much as fits in the little cabinet. I did achieve my goal of finding the Auto-Up, so I have no more worlds left to conquer.

So far, my end goal is to get *down to* to a chrome G690BL, a chrome 150, a GL690, the 50, 100AE, and a 180 (and I'm not even so sure about the 180, since I use it the very least). This is more than sufficient for my needs, since this summer I have gotten like one hour of free time a day and rarely during daylight hours. 😡

The stuff that probably won't make the cut includes essentially three complete cameras systems running from decent-looking to user:

- Two GL690s
- G690BL
- G690BL parts body
- 150mm
- 100mm chrome
- 100mm late
- 100mm AE if Easterwood finishes it
- various caps, hoods, etc.
- 72mm filters (generally UV, orange, ND)

If it's of interest, I'll post an ad on RFF. Unless and until that happens, the stuff is not for sale.

Mamiya Press, eh? I never thought of that (though I have used Mamiya Press viewfinders for quite some time). Maybe when I get out of Sonnar CLA hell, that will be one to do.

We all know there's no way on Gods green earth that the 50mm will ever be
reasonably priced, but a good deal on a 65mm would put it on my "A" list for sure.
(I've got a 50mm for my Mamiya 7 and that proves to be about as wide as I'd ever want.)

My SWC sports an awesome 38mm lens 🙂
I have for my GL and BL the 100mm and 100mm AE lenses. This is sufficient.

I have a 38mm Super Angulon XL that I can use on a 6x7 Crown Graphic, or with my 6x12 back on a 4x5 camera. Wiiiiiiide angle. I'm also trying to hack it onto a Linhof 70.

I bought a Fujica 690BL on a whim but with only a 100mm lens I haven't used it much, hence wanting the 50mm. But at ~$1000, I don't see the value of it. The Fujica is a nice camera though.

How well does the 38mm XL cover 6x12? Silvestri seemed to think that it was a no-go, at least in its manuals. Maybe they only approve things that can be shifted on the stated format?

Great topic!

In trying to acquire the Fujica 670/680/690 camera system, I have found the wire rangefinder to be the rarest item. I have only seen the one I have.

The Auto Up, angled viewfinder, and 50mm are also quite rare, the 50 being a little easier to find than the other two, but very expensive.

The most used are the 65mm, 100 AE, and Auto Up accessory.

Best of luck with the reduction in the horde. I'm sure you'd have some buyers here. Lots of interest in the 150 and 100 AE around these parts.

I am in the market for a good GL690 body after my last one had a major spill.

Would you awfully mind posting a picture of the chrome G690BL? I've never seen one. Does it brass in the same way as the black painted bodies (assuming not)?

Could you also comment on the BL over the GL? Is it mainly for the chrome body? Any other reason you'd prefer it over a GL?

I'm not trying to be flattering when I say that the resources you've provided on the Fuji 690 series have been really valuable to me and I've read each article from top to bottom. Thank you for your hard work.

Jchrome - I actually had the chrome one made (why I'm keeping it), so I haven't had time to brass it yet. Considering it's done with motorcycle-style chrome, I'll probably wear out before it does. Also, don't try this at home; the heat of real plating can really damage the covers, and these had to be straightened quite a bit. I also lost two cameras worth of covers in the process (hence the parts unit I have...). I studied the GL690 for this project, but they are too expensive to use for that.

Otherwise, I am pretty indifferent. The one thing I like better about the BLs is that the initial wind-on requires a lot less leader. The VF is also a little wider in view, and you get a dark-slide indicator (for what it's worth).

Thanks for the kind words on the writeups - I still have to do the 150mm, which has been on my plate for a while.

Best,
Dante

I'd like a 65/5.6, maybe a 150. The parts body could be helpfull as I have a 690BL with a messed up bottom plate thanks to a parcel service that shall not be named.

Holy Japanese Whale Burgers! She's beautiful!! Excellent job.

I was also thinking about a project to re-paint the GL690. I am surprised that the GL is much more expensive than the BL, on the second hand market, I think I see them for about the same.

The other interesting project to me is decreasing the minimum focusing distance of the 150mm from 2 meters to 1 meter. And don't forget the project to couple a Mamiya Press 50mm to the Fuji mount.

But these are a lot of projects that most likely won't be attempted. Kudos to you for the Chrome BL.

Any Nikon right-angle viewfinder should fit the GL/GM series.

I often use a Graflex XL 47mm (on 6x9) wire finder for the 50mm. Works like a charm.
