I used Nikon for several years. I purchased a lot of Canon gear in an estate sale almost a year ago. To be honest they are both good - just different. The Canons are my go-to gear now.

Fleshtones look like crap with Nikons, Canons have lousy metering, Pentaxes have crummy auto-focus. Everything else is worse.

Sony A850. I use Leitax converted R lenses. The R wide angles can clear the mirror unlike N or C.

I never had a Nikon until I got a coolpix 950, which I upgraded to a D100, and then I got an N80, F5, FG, a D70 that a friend had converted to shoot IR, and now I have a D2x. While I'd like a D700 or D3-something, I don't shoot digital often enough to justify one.

Back in the 1980s I shot Canon slrs, and was tempted to get a 10D at the time I was looking at dslrs. I opted for the Nikon because the controls seemsed more intuitive, and because I liked the picture (color and noise pattern) better. I did a bunch of testing and spec. comparing.

5d MKII, 550d and an old 10d for rough conditions. I am not religious when it comes to DSLRs, but as 90% of all pros in Denmark use Canon it is much easier to borrow or rent gear for that brand, so...

I like the feel of the high-end Nikon bodies better than Canon, they seem to be built better. But Ive always used Canon DSLRs (had 5 now) because I prefer Canon lenses. The selection is better and in my opinion so is the image quality. I tried F100 and F2 bodies once and I found Nikon lenses produce a very cool colour tone, which is not to my liking.

YMMV.

I almost couldn't believe it myself, but I really bought a Sony 850 and got so far one ZF lens converted with a Leitax flange. I still have some older Nikons.

The 850 is probably a near perfect camera for me. It still shows quite some old school heritage, which somehow sounds weird with the Sony name sticked on it. I have to complaints regarding the lenses.

Never had a Canon DSLR ... I'm sure they're fine but I'm used to Nikons.

The D700 without a doubt is the best camera I've ever owned ... which isn't to say it's the camera I've liked the most. It's a heavy lump and is typically complicated in that DSLR way but in terms of it's awsome capabilities it's hard to beat!

Agreed, Keith. Albeit with my 5D2. I cant rely on any other camera I own to deliver as well or efficiently as this one.

I have a D90. I have been using Nikon SLR's for 40 years. The D90 is not what I had expected but it makes great images and has survived some nasty conditions. Tough camera IMO.
