What camera do you think has the sweetest shutter sound

As uncool as it is to admit now, but when my Canon EOS 650 was brand new I thought it had the coolest shutter and auto-winder sounds. It just sounded so "high tech." 😀

However, these days I really like the sound of my various rangefinders, Leica M3, Canon New Cononet QL-17L, Olympus XA. I just like the sounds quiet sounds of the shutters without mirror slap. I also have to admit that the Nikon Nikkormat FTn and the Konica Autoreflex T3n just sound right.

I like this topic!... I sold Leicas retail in the 70's, thought that click (M4P) was heavenly... I grew up shooting a Contax IIa, I still shoot that camera, and likewise think it has that same quality. On the other hand when I need a serious publishable image, the Sony A7II and Canon 1DX sound tell me with confidence that the results will please.

My Nikon F5 is a joy to my ears. So quiet and well damped. Today I was shooting in a quiet environment (hospital neonatal maternity unit) and it went completely unnoticed !

I forgot to mention that I just picked a mint condition (really mint)black Nikkormat FT3 and (with the mirror locked up) it has a very discreet, smooth "click"

My limited experience, M2 3 4 Leica, Leica flex series except for R4 &5, Nikon F2.

Zone 6 4x5 is pretty quiet, but don`t know if you can count that. Had a nice quiet between the lens shutter RF in 60`s.

Thanks for the replies chaps, it is good to know l am not alone in my appreciation of shutter sounds, a few year back l found a page on the net where a gentleman had recorded wav files of various shutter mechanisms including the Pentax mx

Indeed I like the shutter sounds of my M2s but the mirror slap from a Mamiya RB67 was something pretty cool too 🙂
Slightly off topic, one of my favorite "photography" sound and practice was the pulling out sound of a polaroid peel apart film from a camera back, just gorgeus 🙂

My favourite shuttersound from analog cameras comes out of Minoltas XD7 and XD5 which were sold in north america as XD11.
A similar nice sound has my digital Fuji X-M1.

My Nikon FM2n was really loud, especially with the MD-12 mounted.
I has an Argus C4 whose shutter sound seemed as loud as a gunshot.
My Bronica RF645 lens shutter sounded like some asthmatic rodent.

Best shutter sounds:

Mamiya 6 (almost silent snick)
Nikon F6 (low frequency and quiet)
Olympus OM-1 and OM-2 (also quiet)

Not so great shutter sounds:

Nikon FM3a and FE2 -- metallic clacky sound, especially with MD2.

Nikkormat. A Leicaflex is nice too, but between the two I would shoot the R glass on a Nikkormat (and have) w/ an adapter. No matter how nice the shutter sound, it is not worth lugging a Leicaflex around that is as big and heavy as a medium format camera.
