What cameras do you take on business trips?

If you occasionally have to travel for work what camera do you take when you're off on a business trip somewhere really special?

I'm not talking about the visits to the regional office set on a business park off a motorway; but the ones where you get to go to an interesting city that you'd like to spend some leisure time in if you could, but in reality it's the sort of trip where you see more of the inside of the aeroplane, the taxi, the office, the hotel than anything else but there might (just) be a half-hour where you can photograph something?

As it happens, I'm off on one of these trips shortly - two days in Cape Town followed by two in Johannesburg. No weekends, no downtime, busy schedule, approx 24 hrs in the air in four days. My first visit to South Africa.

I could just take use the iPhone and Hipstamatic, or pop in the Nex-3, or stick in the Zeiss Ikon and 35/2.8?

What do you do on such trips?

Usually my business trips involve colorful conventions for the gambling industry; like in London, Dusseldorf or Malaga. I usually take my Epson RD-1 along. Both for snapshots and informative photos of machines my company might be interested in.

I always take my Yashica T4 Super (35mm) loaded with some sort of E6 (either Velvia or Sensia III) and either my M4 + 50/2 collapsible or Olympus OM-1n with 85mm f/2 and always, always shooting B&W, usually Ilford Delta or Tri-X.

I just got back from a 48 hour dining review marathon (my girlfriend and I are both writers) but didn't get to shoot that much, mostly due to the rather debilitating effects of continual food coma(s).

FUji X100 or Leica M7 with 35 and 75mm if I have some more time to shoot the place.

M4-P / M7 / M4-2 (one of these) + one or two lenses OR IIIb + two lenses OR Rolleiflex. It mostly depends on how much "important" stuff (aka notebook, technical documents, manuscripts) I have to bring with me and how much space for "photography" (camera, lenses, film) is left in the messenger bag. I have also considered bringing my Linhof Technika IV with me at one of the upcoming trips to the synchrotron since at night the area looks very interesting.

Being on a business trip right now it's an easy question to answer, I have 2x M2's with 35mm and 50mm lenses.
It used to be only a 35Ti, then it became a D3, but that was a chore to carry.

small black Yashica 35MC (40/2.8 lens), Av AE and scale focusing. Easy to use, and if someone from colleagues notice it, it looks nice enough to chat about (oh no, it's not exactly Leica...yes, film...mhm) 🙂

I took an Mp and zm 2/35 to geneva a few weeks ago. Day trip, 20 hours total and the only pictures I took were out of the plane window...

I always take the M6ttl with 35 and 50mm lenses,
but I am thinking of just taking the Konica Auto S3 next time

For me, either my Sony P&S or my XA. If I thought I would have more time for photography I might consider something else.

iiif wearing the cv 15 w/the elmar 50mm in it's little canister as backup. Little gossen meter. light and tiny rig. Unnecessarily cumbersome to use by today's standards, but it gives me a second to dump left brain spreadsheets and ppts and load the right brain with some thoughts of light & composition. Also, a great conversation piece when I open the briefcase.

Out of my cameras, I'd take my Fuji X100. Out of yours, I'd take the NEX-3. You're going to be busy, so a high quality P&S is probably the best.

Business trips for me are about photography, so I pack my Canon 5D Mark II and assortment of lenses, tripod, steadicam etc.

For longer trips where we are driving and I can afford to take more luggage, the M9 comes with me along with the Elmarit 28/2.8, Nokton 35/1.4 and Summicron 50/2, as well as a small compact like the Ricoh GRD III or Canon S90.

When I have to travel as light as possible I take the Ricoh GXR and two aps-c modules and leave the Leica at home. I haven't been on a trip since getting the GXR M-module, but that will probably go with me on my next trip.

As for you, I'd go with the NEX. If you think you'll have a bit of time, take the Ikon and a couple of lenses as well, and an M-adapter for the NEX.
