What changed in 100 years?

Blows my whole theory that the world was in B&W back then...maybe it was that way before these pictures were taken...
Beautiful and some are very sharp with loads of detail...

Did any others take up his technique? My impression is that his approach was not widely used in the early 20th century.

I think, in a slightly different & modified way, Kodachrome slides worked similar: Overlay of three (?) BW layers, each sensitive to one of the three colors and during processing the color is added specifically to the layer to result in the colored frame.

Not exactly the same technique, I think, but there is a book called "The dawn of the color Photograph" with images from Albert Kahn. When I saw the images of old russia the first time, I found the book and the images very similar. Check it out, great book, although the color photographs there are not from russia, but from all over the world.
