What city in the world to visit next?

There is an idea!

That would allow us to hit two cities instead of just one.

We are actually currently looking closely at Istanbul.

Zurich is nice although I find it to be a little boring to photograph at times (but maybe that's just because I live here 🙂 )

If you want to visit a city that confirms every stereotype about what swiss cities look like then a trip to Lucerne is definitely worth a visit.

Places like Davos or St Moritz etc. are all nice if you want to do some skiing or snowboarding. If not it's not worth much more than a one-day trip.

Great idea. Istanbul is a photographer's dream. Interesting layers of architecture (Turkish, Byzantine/Greek, Roman, plus lots of others thrown in over the years), interesting street life, and wonderful physical location and geography.

If you go, make sure to take a ferry trip up the Bosphorus to Anadolu Kavagi, a fishing village just south of where the Bosphorus meets the Black Sea. It's a unique trip. The spectacular views from the ruins in the hills above the village are worth the climb.

I saw most of those places too while in Uncle Sam's boat army. My favorite places though were Melbourne Austraila, Japan (all cities), and Mombasa Kenya.
I also spent 4 years in Hawaii.

Maybe that is what I should be doing with my life. I don't want a desk job, don't like staying in one place for more than a few months (even a few months is too long), and really want to see the world thoroughly.

Just got back from Portugal and all I can say is that Todd is right (if you want to take a look in my gallery i'm posting my holiday's photos but are not that great stuff :bang: ).
I also add a vote for Rome, there's so much to see!

Wow! You can't go wrong with Prague and Budapest. I was there (and Berlin, Paris, London) in 1991. Prague and Budapest are definitely on the top of my list for returns. One nice addition was taking the night trains from Berlin to Budapest, then back to Prague. I was there in late November, weather was cold but beautiful.
 
I vote most definatly for Krakow. Simply amazing place!!!! And while you are at it you could take the train/bus to Zakopane. It's a mountain town on the Poland side of the Poland, Slovakia border. I'm going back to Poland sometime next year and you can bet Krakow will take up a fair amount of my time!

For a nice change of pace you might want to consider Nara/Kyoto Japan and Hong Kong.
 
My favorite country to photograph in is India. Pick just about any place or city and go crazy with a camera. Have put up a few shots on Photonet. The photo essay on carpets was shot entirely with Leica near the city of Mirzapur. Lots of other India shots in the Leica and Canon areas. Link is http://www.photo.net/photos/GlennS

It's certainly different from North America or Europe and may not be everyones cupa tea. Have had my share of adventures there, most of them good. 😎

Jackson, Wyoming. Though not a "city", that shouldn't discourage you. It just happens to have a fair bit of pretty good scenery nearby. Get away from all that gritty, urban, shoot-from-the-hip-and-approximate-the-distance-with-a-35mm-or-28mm-lens street photography. Get off the streets entirely! I'm serious.
 
Without seeing your leanings, I was going to suggest Istanbul (I haven't been). Kiev could be very interesting. Helsinki and Tallinn make a nice combination, but probably not in the dead of winter when they would be dim and perhaps harder to travel between by boat.
 
Go to Singapore. You will not regret it. It is a fabulous place and is kind of like the hub of the Far East. The people are so wonderful. I spent a month there earlier this year and thoroughly enjoyed myself. As a plus, there are some terrific RFF members there. Want to know more and see some sample images?
